Sporting CP (A) | CL | Post Match Thread

Since the draw with arsenal, I feel like other teams have sussed us out a bit more. If they sit deeper in defence when we are on the ball we can’t penetrate their defence and if they press high on the counter when they have the ball, we don't have the legs to run back. Possession based football is coming to an end and other teams know how to exploit us! Last few games we’ve been to relaxed on the ball and not had any aggression to push forward. Simpson-Pusey was flustered from the get-go this evening bad decision.

You cant blame injuries for us being totally dogshit up front. Only Grealish is out, Kev back but looked rusty and will take him a run of games but worrying, other than that, this is what we are left with. Doku/Grealish/Nunes/Savinho/Silva - A complete lack of a emd product let aline goals. And 1 striker only who is missing chance after chance atm.
I mean, Rodri is out as well....he's both up front and defence and goalkeeper and coach and ball boy.

One of the main issues this year is we seem to face at least 2 one on ones per game with the keeper which we can’t seem to eradicate. It’s one of the lowest we have all felt for sometime but it’s just a blip and we’ll be back, i have every faith in our wonderful owners and management team to make sure of that.
There must be some serious head scratching going on though.

I don't think there has been one time when I look at our team and the.other side and don't think we have the better players. It's not even close. We have injuries and are missing our most important player but let's get real here the manager and players are not performing.

Rodri is out for the season and KDB is injury prone. If its gonna turn round it will be with the majority of the staff currently underperforming.
Whenever I clock our starting eleven I always seem to conclude, even with the current crop of injuries, that we are more than a match for the opposition, but there's so many variables that you can't control. One domino falls there's a fuckin' landslide.

Thought we looked the best we’d looked in a while in the first half and could easily have been three up and we’d all be saying what crisis.

Second half though, we looked so vulnerable again. It’s not just the talent on the pitch we’re missing with the injuries, it’s the leadership and personality of certain players.

Still not that worried though. We’ll turn it around.

Think we have to go to a very rigid 4-2-3-1 after the international break and hope like fuck that we can keep everyone fit until January. Stones has got to partner Kovacic in midfield. No Grealish on the left means we lose all sense of shape and discipline while attacking. No De Bruyne means it's falling on Foden and Savinho to create absolutely everything. We definitely need another CM in January - just someone with a bit of energy who can put their foot on the ball.

As for the rest of the week, just get Brighton out of the way. Whatever the result. The lads are fucked. We've had to deal with eight injuries, which means the lads playing are overworked and not getting a chance to rest, which also means Pep's not getting a chance to rotate and try new things. Just need a bit of patience and a bit of hope that Pep can find something new that none of us have thought of. He's done it before, so many times. I'm taking some heart from the fact that 16/17, the beginning of 20/21, and the beginning of 23/24 felt so much worse than this.
Who would you sign in January and why ?

There's none. So slow , injury prone and old
It was my main concern about Gundo coming back.

Our midfield is aging at a time most of the Prem are building teams with high energy and a good press. I’m worried.

Biggest concern for me is that Pep hasn't got a clue how to fix this
Of course he could but he refuses to compromise his principles, he won’t be pragmatic even picking a strong team for Spurs Tonight after we scored we could have retreated but he won’t do that lm sure he would rather loose than change

Opponent goes on the front foot, lifts the intensity, and suddenly we start shirking as individuals and wobbling as a team. Happened in the opening minutes at Bournemouth and the opening minutes of the second-half tonight. Coaching staff better get into them and have them better prepared before it’s repeated at Brighton.
It’s not even that. It’s we dominate the ball in their final third. We lose the ball. 3 of them bomb forward against 2 of us and they score. Every game. It’s totally tactical and can be fixed

We need goals from others.cant rely only on Haaland all the time ,he has quite a lot off games a season and need some other players to score those goals then and defending is at the LVL of Peps first seaosn or even worse.don't really know whats making us concede so many easy goals ,but something is definetly off

It reminded me of how big the gap was with the rags in the 1st half.
The English media rewriting their scripts about the 2nd coming arriving in Tameside... but now Pep and us as a club are ridiculed 10 fold, which we fuckin hate by that result

With Peps obsession with control we've lost threat from the wings. Its crazy to say that we have Doku,Savinho, Grealish and none of them are consistent goal scorers.

I know we have key players missing, but that midfield is so one paced and easy to run through. We are getting caught on the counter far too much and getting punished.

Defensively we are a shambles, time perhaps to ditch the high line temporarily and some how stop conceding.

While he didn't do much when he came on, the difference in approach from De Bruyne compared to those strolling around not attempting anything other than a safe pass was there for all to see. At least he's trying to make things happen.
