Benjamin Mendy | Joins Pogon Szczecin (p92)

Justice prevails!

His wages should hace been paid in full as soon as he was acquitted.

Penny pinchers.
It isn’t quite that simple, but his contract didn’t have the necessary small print to stop his wages even though he was unavailable to play due to the FA suspension.

I can see why the club challenged it, but can also see why they lost.

I agree though maybe City believed he was in breach of contract.
Not knowing what’s in his contract it’s hard to say who’s in the right here.
Either way pay it and move on.
They could always put season ticket prices up again to cover the cost.

But City are paying him to play football, so surely the FA must compensate City for stopping an innocent person able to play football !

City would still have to pay his basic wage, All players have a basic wage without a bonus for playing or achievements like winning or winning silverware or Champions League places, Like I said a player contract is based on all sorts of rules and targets, Even having to make yourself available and fit to play or turning up on time and fit and ready to play,

I think I read somewhere that this was part of the reason City stopped paying him

No they shouldn't.

Why should the club pay him for the period he was banged up inside because he had chosen to breach his own bail conditions?
Well regardless it has turned out he was due them wages, or the majority at least. So he was right and City was wrong. Many in this thread are acting like rival fans after CAS.

I was surprised City didn't settle this. The truth is that employment law is pretty rigid. With cases like this the general protocol is people are suspended on full pay pending the outcome of the case. If they are cleared they get paid up. Mendy behaved like a scumbag repeatedly breaking lockdown rules but was charged and subsequently cleared of rape. I am assuming the only complication would have been whether he was due extra payments for things like win bonuses and appearance fees. He was always going to get paid his basic salary.
We just love the bad publicity

Yeah, this... it just illustrates the madness of football. Imagine running a business like that.

As always, I'd imagine it will lead to a bit more small print going into players contracts in the future.

For sure on the last bit.

I wonder if Newcastle paid Tonali last season.

This will attract the attention of our PL rivals. Imagine if they had to pay wages for every player who is charged for something. We might get their support on this one

Get a guilty verdict , then after go after his cash or the worst, sell their story.

I am not taking this further , rape is rightly a very emotive subject but there are some very evil people of both sexes who use it to make false accusations.
You have a shockingly bad attitude to women

Right thing for the club to take this into the court and not settle on the steps. Needed a ruling on the FA ban as both parties had a case here. He was available for selection but we could not play him.

Can we look to recoup from the FA? I hope we don't even consider it. Bad look and I'm sure someone's already said we would have ringfenced the salary for this case.

Result? He was always going to get something back here once found not guilty. 2.5 million saved one way to look at it. Bearing in mind there's a difference between being innocent and found not guilty I'd like to see a donation to a suitable Manchester based charity with some of that myself, reinforce the morality element of the clubs stance here as well as legal and financial.

So what?

He was owed money by City. City should have paid it as soon as he was acquitted.
Why?

The judgment ruled we didn’t have to pay him all the money. If he is legally claiming victory here then the same should be applied to city. Who when deciding to purchase said player didn’t disclose his off field attitude towards women.

He can piss off playing the victim here. That’s the trouble these days no one wants to take responsibility for their own actions. He needs to do that and so do his accusers. City once again caught in the crossfire. If anything we are owed a transfer fee from the club he signed with after his release and remuneration from the FA.

Anyway he is a waste of space.

He might be due the wages according to the Tribunal but you haven’t addressed the issue that it was the FA that banned him so - who should have paid him?? I’m interested in YOUR opinion - not the Tribunal’s

though he probaby is owed from us he was shite anyway amd stole a living from the club when fit/not suspended.

Only.danny mills comes ahead of him as a wage thief
