Interestingly I find that interesting in that when we here of elections in the US we hear of the black vote or hispanic vote etc etc its so alien to us - no UK Party or UK media outlet would break the electorate down in those terms - just sounds wrong. Some would think of it as woke thinking I just think its disrespectful to stick people in a bloc without deep analysis and even then to group them by ethnicity is probably illegal here

I think part of the reasoning we don’t see it in the UK is that social class divisions count for more than divisions by race or ethnicity (or any other trait for that matter) and so that tends to be the focus of our electorate profiling. Our country isn’t free from racial biases of course, but here race isn’t as good a predictor of who you’d be expected to vote for and so really it has more limited practical value.

But when we do fancy bucketing a group of people into a very precise stereotype… well that’s what we have the Scottish for.

People vote for the opposition when the economy goes south, it happens across the World, and we have just seen Covid, Russian v Ukraine and the situation in Israel/Gaza/Iran etc, so little wonder Trump got the votes from those who don’t follow World affairs. I happened to be in the USA when 9/11 happened, so I was trapped in Las Vegas for a week with hardly any money after the atrocity, but nobody had any clue about World affairs, they only know about the USA

It was one of the things I didn't like about the Harris campaign. Black policies and Latino policies. Understand why she did it, but thought it was a bit weird that you could make a policy that automatically appeals to all black or Latinos regardless of sex, education, socio economic status etc.

But it does seem to be a thing there.

And yet black males and women voted for Trump.

You see, this is the problem right here.

People are put in a box because of their colour and/or gender. "White people did this...." "Black people want this...."

Usually spoken by someone who has an agenda, and doesn't really give a shit other than getting their ideology across

There was something on the news tonight about how some black US citizens are completely fed up with being talked down to. Almost "protected" and mollified by the liberal elite.
They are quite capable of speaking, and doing things, for themselves. People of any/every colour are different from each other; it's the way of humanity.
Some are good, some are crap.
My point in a nutshell. The Democrats ran with dividing people whereas Trump went with working class. There's a lot more people on the edge than rich without the Democrats trying to play divisions.

Right I've had my half day of sulking about the result. I'm moving on. Hope my fears about the Trump presidency aren't realised.

Going to make sure some good comes out of it with some money going to charitable causes and a re-commitment to my own health and wellbeing. Hi gym, long time no see.

One thing this campaign has done is re awaken my interest in politics. I've been worn down by the mediocrity of our politicians and political parties for decades. Could never join a party, but how does someone become politically active without being part of a party machine?

I’m still hoping all those on here late last night who said betting on Harris was like printing money will come back on and offer me my stake money back.

Harris in her farewell speech is trying to be optimistic and the audience is trying to believe it.

Nah.
I won’t fall out with anyone in here, but this campaign I found nauseating at times.
Unbelievable in how abnormal behaviour has been normalised and ultimately endorsed by the electorate in the US of A.
But also reflected in the levels of debate in here at times.

I don’t see it as naturally following that ‘We won, so we were right’ .
I’m very apprehensive about what is in store for the world in general next year and have no doubt the incoming American government will play a big part in how things unfold.

Regarding just moving on, well yes, there’s sod all I can or could have done anyway.
So yes I’ll move on, but my opinion of Trump has not changed. He’s a gobshite but he is now the soon to be American president which makes him the biggest and bestest gobshite ever.

Sorry to all our wonderful American contributors in here but I simply would have no desire to enter your Great Again country.
I find nothing of interest to me in it.

Best of luck to you all without exception, however.

Pretty much.

Can you also get Socialist narcissism, or Conservative, like when both Corbyn and Sunak lost? Did either of them introspect or did they blame others?

Looking at the Tories, I’d say they are still blaming others, even if it’s what its factions within their own party. For Corbyn, he was moved on and now isolated from the party, which shows that the party did have a look at itself.

Are the Dem’s more like our Tory party than we think?

I only ask this as I always seen the Dem’s as Labour and Republican as Tory. Think I may have got it completely wrong.
