Ederson (defensive midfielder Atalanta)

Javi Garcia was actually a pretty solid and good player who gets unjustified hate for me, this is a poor take he did well for us but just had people who refused to accept him, his only real crime was replacing fan favourite Nigel De Jong.

This didn't stop him being a very important squad member in the 2013/14 season, and quite frankly he was much better player than his hyped up replacement Fernando.

With NDJ before him and both Fernandinho's arrival and now Rodri we've been truly blessed, honestly though I really think Pep would've liked Javi Garcia, he was strong on the ball rarely ever made a bad pass and was very positionally aware.

The main reason people hated Garcia is he didn't cover many yards he wasn't Nigel De Jong but they didn't see what he added, he more more made up for his lack of pace by being positionally spot on and was an important cog in our title win with Gareth Barry sold.

Although we loved Nigel De Jong because fought for every single ball he still had his own weaknesses, like he didn't suit a true possession side and always potentially had a red card in him waiting to happen.

Javi Garcia is deeply disrespected player in our fan base from back then because lets have it right our midfield was pure quality, take Javi Garcia away from our side in the 2013/14 Prem and League Cup winning season and it becomes a lot harder, he took part in 47 games in total 29 games in the league helping us to close out games due to his passing and positioning.
Yeah Fernando was trash but that's only because we play on grass, everyone knows Octopuses don't move well on grass

Most ideal signing if we can manage it in terms of profile and need in Jan.
Zubimendi vs Ederson vs Reijnders.

The most ideal option would be Reijnders. He is the profile that could genuinely save our season. We sign him, our season would be saved. He could complement Rodri when he's back, operate as a lone 6, or thrive as a dynamic, powerful box-to-box midfielder. He brings pace, power, intensity and urgency when needed, intelligence, and control—qualities we desperately need right now.

Honestly, it’s starting to feel like our scouts are losing their touch when it comes to identifying top-tier midfielders, which is worrying given how critical the midfield is in Pep's system. Midfielders are the heartbeat of his philosophy, and we can’t afford to get it wrong in such a pivotal area again and again.

i've just started assuming the players and/or entourage are complete bellends off the pitch. Much easier to digest.

I was always surprised we didn't go for McAllister at Brighton. The Dips got in there for a good price. We'd have had 2 World Cup winners in our team.

I agree, recent mid recruitment = meh.

In the summer we'll have more of a chance.
Agree - mid season and top of the league means they will want a premium on top of his regular transfer fee. One of the fundamentals of our transfer policy has been not overpaying and sticking to a value. Would the threat of no CL next season change this? Not sure.

Well it has to change we have pussy footed around ever since we signed Jack We go to his agent and ask for a yes or no inside 3 days or we move on Pay the premium it’s only fair Like paying a bit over the odds for a house if you want it pay it

I suspect we can't afford not to pay a premium this time. The season is falling apart in front of our eyes and I cannot see how we fix things with the current personnel. Lewis, Gundogan and Silva are not going to gain a yard of pace and Rodri isn't coming back. It's shit or bust this January. If we miss out on the CL on account of not signing anyone then that's tens of millions not brought in, plus the potential for us not to land top targets in the summer. Unless the asking price is ridiculously over the top then we can't be as stubborn in negotiations as usual. We do not hold any aces.

Probably move on to other targets if that is the case and one season out of the Champions isn't completely catastrophic. However the caveat is we cannot afford a couple of seasons out of it.

Dependent on whether he has a release clause. If he’s good enough , paying over the odds may be necessary.

Given the size of the club and that they haven’t got much to play for the lad (Rocci) from Torino is probably the most likely mid season?

if you wanna take rumours as they are, cost you 100m for both this window.
