The Labour Government

It shouldn’t happen to people who haven’t had their applications considered as was the case with the Rwanda farce but presumably for a fraction of the cost they’ve actually managed to process some of the backlog that the previous government didn’t bother doing and deported those that have failed in their application. Why are you so against that? I would imagine that if we’re looking for a deterrent to stop non-genuine asylum seekers coming, the prospect of being dealt with quickly and flown to their country of origin would be greater than offering them thousands to go to Rwanda after sitting in a UK hotel for years.
He’s against it because it wasn’t the Tories

Didn't say that these were refused asylum by Labour .... simply that their application had been refused.

At last we have a government that is actually doing something
The legal process starts and once it's completed only then are you deported it make no difference which party is in power unless they have made a change to the laws regarding asylum & appeals which they have not done .

Judge a Govt on its actions not its rhetoric. Fucking Rwanda scheme for gods sake

‘the Sunday Mirror understands’? Does that mean it has happened? Because they make it seem like are they guessing after being given some vague information.

A good first step was to implement the existing laws - something the previous government didn’t want to do because they wanted to create a crisis to use as an election issue. Fortunately most of us saw through it and they’re history.

No one who has been refused asylum since labour came to power has been deported . On average from being refused asylum to deportation is at least 18 months . They can volunteer to leave if they wish
So Labour is so far only deporting people that the Tories failed to deport?

The Tories were too busy trying to deport West Indians who couldn't prove that they'd been entitled to be here after working and paying taxes here for 30 years.

So they could get the credit for solving a problem of their own creation. They played that game badly though.

Or perhaps more sinisterly, they knew it was always going to be a fuck-up and it was to lay the groundwork for the UK withdrawing from the ECHR.
It beggars belief that a ruling Government deliberately took a course of action knowing it would harm its residents

Not really surprising from the Tories. Dirty tricks are part of the game, and for them politics is a game first and foremost.

I caught Chris Philp waffling on this morning, blaming the police for pursuing non crime hate incidents without taking the blame for a conservative goverment introducing this. Buzzwords used were autonomous drones and automatic face recognition. And then the serious issues of the day...cracking down on nitrous oxide.

The bloke was an embarrassment in the Truss ministry and he has failed upwards into the man the Conservatives believe should be running the police force.

All the liberal lefties who've insisted for so long that all our economic woes are due to the big corps and wealthiest individuals avoiding paying their fair share of tax contributions... any indication when Keef and Rach are going to start targeting these in a meaningful way?

I’m fully in favour of it lol

I’m just amused at the sudden turn around in attitudes to throwing the “foreigners out on a plane” by some that’s all.

Deporting people that have their asylum applications and subsequent appeals rejected/denied was never the issue. Deporting people without hearing or even processing their applications was the issue.

All countries have a legal process and that process should be respected not ignored by the Government of the day. If this Government ignores, or abuses the process then it will get criticism too.

Glad we’ve moved away from three word sound bites like “get Brexit done” and “stop the boats” and replaced them with the much more meaningful “smash the gangs”.

It was co-opted from the Tories so you have them to blame for it. Their obsession with framing the Rwanda scheme as a humanitarian option against the criminal gangs.

I’m all for it, no detailed policies, just everything summed up in three word constantly repeated sound bites so nobody has to think any longer.
“Fixing the foundations”
Amazing stuff.
