David Coote | Charged with making indecent video of a child (p57)

For me the stitch up is... Releasing the first video and sitting on the snorting lines one until people have come out to defend him...

Is that what you mean..?
The release of the videos was definitely coordinated by the media to maximise engagement (read advertising profit), but I think the whole saga reeks of blackmail.

I kind of agree with you but I can't quite get my head around how it reeks of that...

Because it's blackmailable material..? Is that my reason..? This is the kind of thing you could blackmail someone for so therefore I think this situation is blackmail...?

Otherwise... I must be saying... Coote has either refused to be blackmailed or refused to be blackmailed any further...? If it's blackmail... that's all the video coming out can mean right...? Or are there other possibilities..?

Because Coote at first said the video was AI... So... he can't have been too prepared to deal with this right...?

Coote reffed the following games involving us:
This season - none
2023/24 - City 2 - 0 Sheffield Utd
2022/23 - City 3 - 0 Bournemouth, City 3 - 2 Liverpool (EFL Cup), City 3 - 0 Wolves
2021/22 - Brentford 0 - 1 City

That's it as far as I can see. So we do have a 100% record.

Edit: From what I can see, the only controversial incident in those games was in the Brentford one, where Toney left his studs on Fernandinho and could have seen red but didn't.
But you are missing out the important statistics....
City v Sheff. Utd. They were top of the league and unbeaten until we played them.
City v Bournemouth. Up until this match we had not beaten Bournemouth in 156 years.
City v Liverpool. The very fact you have recorded we won the match shows how corrupt it was.
Brentford v City. I assume you don't remember our winning goal was scored in the 115th minute when all the Brentford players were in the bath.

What ? I'm only doing what the rest of the Internet does. Give it a few days a Magic Hat will tweet my post claiming it as his own.

Didn't we have a couple of goals scrubbed off for offside in that game? They looked good from my position in the stands.

The likes of Anthony Taylor have a base salary of £100k a year and also receive £1500 a game apparently. There’s enough financial remuneration to take shit from the likes of Klopp, where do I sign up?

It’s easy. You just dedicate virtually your whole life to becoming a professional referee from about the age of about 13.

Then if you’re good enough, about 20 years later, you’ll get promoted to the elite group of referees.

Wondering if there's any opinions on the timing of this...?

International Break news release doesn't suggest something organic... Or am I wrong?

People saying blackmail... is the idea that "his" side have released the videos to escape blackmail..? or...? He's refused blackmail and so the blackmailers have released the videos...?

But if so why time it with an international break...?
Blackmail is illegal, they would have to be pretty fucking thick to include their own faces on any blackmail attempt!

The person he’s talking to who’s off camera?

No mate. I was taking about the other video that UEFA are taking an interest in.

I’ve not followed it particularly closely for updates on the story but the initial suggestion was that he was alone in his hotel room at the Euros, filming himself doing a few lines and then forwarding it on to various people, for approval presumably.

Oh the Irony! Scousers buying the Sun newspaper, to get offended about someone taking coke, who has slagged them off!

Sometimes comedy writes itself!

Haven’t seen that. Don’t need to see a video of him doing lines for me to appreciate that he was on it in that other clip.

10 years ago I was at a meeting with Howard Webb. At the time he said that he received £150k retailer from the PL along with £3k per game. On top of that he got a £50k retainer from uefa along with £5k per game. And to add to that he got £25k retainer from fifa along with £2k per day that he was still involved in the World Cup.
I think with inflation the current lot may be on a bit more.
1 of the lads I know who is a current assistant gets £1500 per game when he's on var.

Was discussing this today with a colleague. With regards to his actual remarks, and taking aside that they're against Liverpool, are they actually career ending? Should they be?

I would have said so when it broke, but now after a few days.... He called someone out on their behavior, and let's be honest anyone without Liverpool glasses on could see klopp was a bit of a dick, clearly loved himself and loved to take it out on others when things didn't go his way. Coote's embarrassed himself, it's massively unprofessional, but is it really career-ending?

Now bringing in the Liverpool and premier league factor.m, the level of scrutiny of the world's most viewed league and the constant sense of injustice from Liverpool fans... If it was against Chesterfield, would anyone care? If it was on the premier league last season against Sheffield United who, apart from their own fans, is calling for his career to end and claiming they lost out because of it?

I actually think, as others are saying now too, the pretty obvious "under the influence" angle is of much more concern.

Yep, the issue isn't so much what he said. It's that his behaviour and incredibly poor judgement make him ripe for blackmail. Not a risk the PL/PGMOL can take in my opinion. He's done.

Gizza job? Go on; gizz it? I can do that!

Interesting that the pl allow certain managers and clubs to behave appallingly towards refs.
The pl have allowed whitch hunts against certain teams.
The pl have allowed certain clubs more leeway to stay within financial rules.
Yet a ref thanks be honest was speaking the truth is a step to far for the pl.

If anything this event shows that refs need more support both in training, how do deal with abusive managers and players.
Also the pl need to stamp down on knobheads like klopp.

Completely agree. But having a ref with a penchant for filming himself taking drugs is just asking for trouble.

There’s a lot of hard yards you have to do rising up through the ranks to be able to officiate in top level football. As you have outlined the financial remuneration is very rewarding, what was Coote thinking letting someone film him doing coke? All that hard graft gone.

I only got to level 3 but was still bringing in approximately 16k a season in addition to working as a paralegal full time
