Club World Cup - Summer 2025

I think it will be fantastic. Winning the first proper Club World Cup with that line-up of teams will be a major success and I am sure Pep wants it.

That's my take too. Over time the prestige of trophies change. The FA Cup to me is incredibly prestigious but does it get the same respect now as it did? I don't think so.

Europa League and Conference League feel elevated above what they should be too.

Could be that in 20-30 years the Club World Cup is seen in a much higher regard than now.

We have broken records domestically. Other than winning the most league titles, which we remain a distance off. Dominating on the European and world stage shouldn't be sniffed at regardless of what the competition is.

Huge marketing potential which only helps us stay at the top.

I still can't get my head around this tournament. I know it will make millions for City but in my book I'd rate it on par with the Charity Shield.

It's another grubby money making exercise that devalues the real value of our established competitions.

It will seriously impact on our start to next season and I can see another injury nightmare scenario.

Would be great if City finally grew some bollocks and fcked it right off.

We don't need it for our standing in world football and we should be concentrating on a fitting finale for Pep's last season.

Nobody knows when Pep's last season will be?

The cheapest are Frontier, Spirit, Jet Blue and Breeze but you get whacked in the wallet if you are carrying luggage / travelling with friends amd want to sit together.
It's called the "Ryanair" syndrome...;)

Frontier and Spirit are definitely the cheapest. Breeze is a subsidiary of Jet Blue but is limited on destinations. Definitely cheaper than Jet Blue though.

Pep will only want it if we have to play in it. And I'll bet the players would like a decent break for a change.

Don't get me wrong, in an ideal world where the football calendar wasn't overcrowded it would be a great idea, but the football calendar is overcrowded and the players aren't machine's.

I would rather ditch most international football and the Carabao Cup. I just think that football is totally global whether we like it or not. British clubs snubbed the European Cup for years because of their arrogant attitude and that was a mistake. I believe the Club World Cup (backed by FIFA and huge money) will become as big as the CL in the future and we should take it seriously. I am sure Pep will regard it as important. All the world's best teams are taking part and it will be a huge broadcast event across the world no matter how snobby the English press are about it. If we win this trophy it will be huge for our club.

I'm with you about getting rid of international football such as the nations league and friendlies, but at the end of the day, our players are going to be knackered after not getting another summer off.

Arsenal and Liverpool won't be there and that will be them rested with a big advantage for the following season. You don't seem concerned about the workload for our players? I will reiterate they aren't machine's and desperately need a decent break.

We won't pull out unilaterally but I hope the legal challenge against this tournament is a success.

I am concerned about the players but believe Pep will put a priority on the World Cup. A lot depends on the injury situation. If we win it then Arsenal and Liverpool fans will be gutted. It is an opportunity to become the first English club to win the World Cup and that will be history-making. Your opinion is fair enough but I just believe this will be fantastic. Imagine City v Boca Juniors or Real Madrid in the final. Better than pre-season friendlies anyway.

I think we'll have to agree to disagree. Like I said in an ideal world it could be a great tournament but with the overcrowded fixtures schedule, for me it's a step too far.

Yeah I saw that. May not change much or it may change everything. Time will tell. FWIW I have never flown either them or Frontier.
Flown with both and never had an issue though I never need to check in bags and have traveled on my todd so never needed to pay extra to book a seat.

I even once stood my seat down at the gate when asked for a volunteer to do so. Had an extra day in LA, very posh hotel for the night, $24 breakfast voucher and a $500 voucher with Spirit.
Was booked in a regular room at the hotel and the receptionist said “oh a voucher from an airline? We’ll tell them the regular rooms were booked so I’ve put you in an en suite room.”
Bingo!

No wonder Spirit have gone bust, a $24 breakfast voucher??

I agree with all that.
Years ago the FA cup was THE cup to win. Not the league.

The europa/conference have had a resurgence in so much that again, years ago, the uefa and CWC were seen as very prestigious trophies with top teams who finished 2nd in their league, downgraded to europa and taking a very distant second to the champs league but as you say they are on the up again.
Ask west ham!

As regards to the world club cup, i remember it just being a quirky game played between (usually) liverpool and a brazilian team on a dusty pitch in japan.
I think the new format will elevate it and 100% it will be a trophy the club will definitely want to win.

It could end up as a flop. Who knows? But it will only happen once every four years so perhaps they can sort out the calendar better moving forward. The problem is that UEFA and FIFA are perpetual rivals and both have ramped up their own international fixtures at the expense of domestic football. But the Club World Cup could end up being more lucrative than most international football so I suspect FIFA will want to push it as much as the World Cup itself. The reality is that City could make as much from winning this CWC as the CL so the club will take it seriously. And that's why our enemies at LFC, Arsenal, and MUFC (and their media pals) are doing everything they can to undermine the CWC. However I agree 100 per cent that the current fixtures schedule is a joke.
