Spurs (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

Anyone think we might be missing Rodri?
We knew that last season mate. We lost all four games he didn’t play in. That should have been the wake up call to bolster defensive midfield.

We once had Barry, de Jong and Vieira (even Yaya who could also play in defensive mid if required), we also once had Fernandinho, Rodri and the old version of Gündoğan.

We now have no high quality players in that position with Rodri out injured. That’s really poor squad planning. Same with the lack of cover for Haaland.

Having four defenders injured at the same time like we had at Brighton is one thing, but having no back-ups at all in some positions is very poor for a club of our standards.

It’s as simple as Gvardiol and Rico being absolutely dogshit off the ball that’s seen us conceding like we have been. Fix the full back defending and we shore up a lot.

Then you have to urgently address the aging squad. Walker’s legs are gone and he never had anything aside from them. Stones is like glass these days. Gundogan and Kovacic are 20-30 minute players.

We looked 100 times better when KDB came on and whilst that’s a short term positive we need new blood for next season. Wirtz is the guy.

We also have to look at VVD and how he came back from his injury, Rodri won’t be Rodri for at least a year regardless of when he gets back playing. Tall players and those injuries are a mad mix.

I think Pep needs to drop Rico and Walker and get Akanji out to rb. Ake to left back and hope Dias and stones can be fit or else play the kid at cb.

A Silva, KDB, Foden middle has the legs.

Pep will turn this around, but can’t massage any ego’s now. A lot of goodbyes coming.

There’s a lack of effort currently for me. The ats what’s annoying
I genuinely don't think it’s a lack of effort, The players we have at our disposal right now especially in the midfield area aren't up to it. They are trying but they don't have the legs to compete. We are losing every midfield battle.

Take Brighton for example, We were leading 1-0 at half time, They brought on Baleba and we made him look like prime Zinedine Zindane and we lost 2-1.

Today's midfield battle was men against boys.

You’re telling me. I had to watch this with my husband who is a Spurs fan.

I’ve only been a fan for 10ish years so I’m a true bandwagon fan (and in the US!), so if I can make it through today, so can you all! There is enough shit in the world today, so
im staying annoyingly positive and hoping for the next great reinvention by Pep.

Music, gin and the log fire all on the go.

Yes, things could be much worse. I am desperately ignoring the Liverpool fan in a work group chat.

We've had it good for some time, a blip (hope that's all it is) is to be expected.

Let's make a start in putting it right against Feyenoord.

I can’t see a lack of effort personally, a lack of confidence and in same cases ability perhaps.

We have been a well oiled machine for years, the players have it built into them to not get too high or too low.

I think every player who pulls on the shirt gives their all, however sometimes the legs can’t do what the mind wants.

Just posted below elsewhere on BM,

between doku, silvinho, gundogan, foden, Bernardo, Grealish, kdb and Nunes, they’ve scored 3 goals in over 70 appearances in the league this season….
Posted the exact same in the pre match thread. Goals have gone. We scored 1 in each of the last 5 games before today and 0 today. Couple that with an inability to keep anything resembling a clean sheet and it’s a recipe for disaster.

Unfortunately I have to agree with this.

His off field antics alone should have him nowhere near the captaincy. We are in the trenches at this period in time and when we need a leader to steady the ship, Walker isn't that man.

Huge downgrade from the likes of Vinny and Fernandinho.
Sucking up to Son as he went off proves he’s not embarrassed or hurting like we all are,

Think city players and coach need to come back down to the real world.

The success has blinded us.

We need to work harder in both possession and defending as a team. Cut out the simple mistakes with passing and taking up tactical position.

Until we can buy i want to see at least hunger and determination.

I hope pep changes the setup but can’t see it unfortunately. Try staying compact and hit on the counter. Drop the defence and stop the stupid non existent press.

You never know he might surprise. At the very least we need to start trying to pick up points. That has to be starting point.
Being brought back down a peg or two is never a bad thing.

It can recalibrate everything: attitude, professionalism, focus, ambition, forward planning…

Said after the bournemouth, Brighton and Sporting games, the problems aren't with the players, it's a major tactical problem that doesn't get sorted until tactical changes are made. The injuries merely masked and offered an excuse for poor losses but I said after those games it will carry on even with most of the squad available if we setup the same way and look what's happened now.

A humiliating home defeat to a midtable spurs side who didnt perform all that well themselves, got beat at home to ipswich last game and was soundly booed off and who were without both their starting centre backs. If anybody is still clinging on to the excuse it will get better with certain players available I suggest they wake up. This will repeatedly happen until the formation changes.

We are constantly outnumbered when defending, no professional football club should be finding themselves putnumbered or at best man for man every single time the opposition attack, it's Sunday league amateur level of defending. If the opposition get things right, there's simply nothing we can do to prevent it, we're consistently gambling on them fucking up easy chances.

The press is the core problem, it is fucking dreadful! we've got slow players that can't get there, mainly the midfield, We've got players who run and put on the illusion of a press but never, ever make any real effort to win the ball back, predominately the front line and thus may aswell not bother and we've got players who just launch forward way out of position when the press has already failed, namely yhe defensive unit and none of them ever show any desire to get back into position or behind the ball once they've been easily bypassed.

Pep has had 2 weeks to think of something different to salvage the season. Today should have seen change if it was going to happen, he came up with nothing but a slight tweak that made us even worse, can't see how he changes anything this year if it didn't come today. If we play the same way nect weekend, were going to get annihilated at Anfield who thrive off doing the thing we're most vulnerable to and that will see us 11 points behind them. If that happens that will be the title gone by the first day of December, we won't be able to stop that gap growing nevermind close it

It's all doom and gloom, I tells ye.

Doom and gloom.

Five in a row defeats doing the fucking same (miss chances and open to counters) is insanity levels.

Come on Josep, sort it out and don't overthink it. We trust you.

Typical City, might as well just embrace it.
Been Blue for about 60 yrs, so I’ve seen the highs and lows, but the recent highs have been so high and frequent that “normal” is starting to feel like a deep low.

Perspective definitely required, but Typical City has become “win” not “grasp defeat from the jaws of victory.”

It’s a long way from over, but we are meeting (Feyenoord and then!) Liverpool at a very bad moment!

I agree, until at least May 24th.

It’s not looking good given the issues we face and the growing strength of other teams.

I’d take 2nd and two good windows before next season RIGHT NOW.

Never say never, and all that, but without a win next weekend, it’s hard to see us winning FOUR more PL games than Liverpool between December and May.

Fingers crossed and all that, but you might make a few quid if you have a few to spare on a flutter on Monday!
2nd would be more than I would expect with this squad and the injuries past , present and no doubt to come.

No doubt the players have pride and don't like it wounded but today more than any other demonstrated to me that the transition that needs to and I am confident will take place has arrived.

I am already looking forward to the next crop of champions we will get into the club but we have to face the reality that father time has caught up with many of our current squad and we will stutter for a little while by our high standards during Pep's reign.
