Not wanting to derail the thread entirely here but mcatee isn't getting minutes because Phil foden is in the side, simpson-pusey is getting a chance because we have no fit senior defenders. Unless you're suggesting mcatee should play centre back, I don't understand the relevance in any comparison.

You may aswell compare mcatee's lack of minutes to Carsons minutes over the last half a decade, it has about the same level of relevance.

My point mate is really why do we have him in the side at all if he isn't going to get played? Phil is going through a stinking patch, Bernado has stunk the place out and we have had wingers out of commission all season.

He isn't getting a chance, Pep forces Rico into any position he can get him in, if you watch Rico it looks like he even had free reign some matches, he could easily have shoehorned McAtee into the side with these injuries and lack of form.

Otherwise why have him on the bench?

Currently just lacking experience, thats why he is making some mistakes.

But he has a decent frame and speed for his age already.

Hopefully next year he can be a nice sub defender to play the cup games, best way to get these young guys in.

Remember reading that kind of post about Rico Lewis.

He's obviously in the team through necessity right now, but I think he's shown enough that there's a chance he can be integrated in the first team squad longer term.

Probably right that the odds are against it, but I wouldn't rule it out totally.

Horrendous v Lincoln City in the Trophy too btw, for those that never saw the 0-5 thrashing.

Very strange your first thought is to come on and abuse a young kid when he was at fault for none of the goals

Such an odd post. He’s a young kid. It’s not his fault the entire defence and midfield can’t defend as well
 
There is no need to play this kid at the moment. Out main defenders need every minute for confidence their form.

Its a pity he didn't come on for Gvardiol so.
Not sure what responsibility he had for those 3 goals or the 4 we conceded at the weekend against spurs.
 
He’s had limited minutes but I’ve been impressed with him on the ball. Haven’t seen him do any defending though. Seems to be a common theme with defenders coming through the academy.

We’ve all celebrated our youth sides wiping the floor with the opposition in recent years but maybe them winning so easily, has meant that our young defenders aren’t being tested enough?
 
I wonder if he would turn back time to before his debut. what a shit time to get your first few apps at this club. worst period since Stuart Pearce literally in terms of recent results. dont think he learnt much of these minutes given the absolute shock and panic and beatings...
