there's 300 admendments to the bill that need voting for before passing the bill. That's part and parcel of how governments work. The bill currently written isn't the bill that will get passed it will go through various edits before being finalised and pushed through. If this one amendment gets in it has the potential to destroy City and Newcastle. It should be taken far more seriously than the 115 charges.

I know. More than 300 amendments and the Brighton amendment isn't one of them. So not only is the proposed amendment not in the bill, as you stated, it's not in the amendments being sent back to the lower house either.

Anyway, this is all pointless. I was just trying to re-assure people that don't understand the process that the proposed amendment isn't in the bill yet.

I'm done with this.

From the Guardian....

Guardiola: 'I don't want to run away. City will be back'

Pep Guardiola is speaking about his Manchester City side’s visit to Anfield. Here’s some of what he had to say.

On the challenge of facing Liverpool:

It will be difficult. We have lost a lot of games in a row. There are still many, many games to play. Liverpool [are one of the best teams in the world] at the moment. Arne [Slot] is doing a great job. We are not as stable [as we used to be]. In the past when we went 3-0 up we were in control. The best place to prove if we are stable is Anfield.”
Guardiola is asked if his club is in crisis. Spoiler: he doesn’t seem to think so.

[We are in crisis] when you [journalists] write about it. We will be back, I know that. I don’t know when. That is the truth. We are second in the Premier League table, we are not in a good moment in terms of results, but I have the feeling in general that we played more than decent, but not enough to win games. But in life it is about when you stand up again. You are stable when you are 10, 11, 12 games winning but [if we win one game at Anfield] it does not mean we are stable. If we do not have the players [who are injured] we are probably going to fall down again. You have to accept when you are in a bad moment and you challenge it. I want an opportunity to challenge [the bad form]. I don’t want to run away. I asked for this challenge and opportunity. I feel it. I know what we have to do. It’s no excuse to say Rodri’s not there. What am I going to do? Cry every day. We not have consistency at the moment but tell me which sport team in the past decade has had the consistency of us? No one

This made me laugh, on "Guardiola and crisis club Manchester City", a blue emailed the Guardian with the following...

When Joseph Heller was told that he has not written a book as good as Catch-22 on the 10th year anniversary of the book he replied “Who has?”

Unfortunately the definition the bill is putting in place is any member of a ruling government is classed as State Owned. Sheikh Monsieur falls under this category. Make no mistake this is designed to ruin the club
What about the ongoing joint project with Manchester City Council to regenerate East Manchester. The next phase is for Holt Town and New Islington. This is a threat to thousands of jobs and homes in Manchester. Does this bill just apply to football? What about overseas investment in our universities, city-centres, airports? What about horse racing and boxing. This could mean that every person related to any ruling family in the world could not invest their own personal money in a UK business. Would Emirates Airlines be able to carry on investing millions in Arsenal? It is total madness. Perhaps Andy Burnham will finally find his voice. Don't hold your breath.

The Guardian lost its fucking head years ago. It is not a serious outlet any more.
The Guardian is a strange organisation these days. It seems to simultaneously publish anti-Arabic and anti-semitic content. But it is not balanced (or even Liberal) in the way it covers any issues. It just spreads hate. It is as bad as the Daily Mail in speading hate. And both these papers relentlessly spread hate about City.

I know what the proposed amendment says. I posted it first.

But the bill as discussed in the Lords didn't have this amendment in it and so far it hasn't even been discussed as an amendment.

So to say the bill includes that definition, as you did, is wrong. It may eventually, but it probably won't.
That seems to make sense. It is impossible to see how a bill banning relatives of overseas Governments from investing in a football club could ever be introduced especially if that bill just targeted football clubs and ignored investments in all other sports (like racing) or other UK firms of all sorts. Presumably the disgraced Peer Lord Bassam has been lobbied by the well-known City-hater Tony Bloom.

Not to go all realpolitik here, but if you think the British Government is going to pass a Bill that directly targets a member of the UAE Government and ruling family of Abu Dhabi then I've got a bridge to sell you. The UAE is an extremely important ally geopolitically, with them being sat in the centre of the China/Russia/US business interests and courting all of them equally, as well as a key balancing force in the region that is dominated by the Saudi/Iran/Israel conflicts. As a former British protectorate with big links here, and a sovereign wealth fund that focuses on international investments and global trade, the British Government is bending over backwards to become as close to them as possible. As I say, if people think Scruffy Jim and the red cartel gang are going to outpower the billions of investment and diplomacy that is happening there, then I don't really know what to tell you
I don't think it will even get to the stage of the British government having to make a decision.
Like the 115 charges, it has been done simply to drag our clubs name through the mud.
There were 300 odd amendments listed, guess which one the media highlighted.
Job done and Lord Snoutinthemoneytrough is a couple of grand richer.

It appears that some forms of racism are acceptable, even in such places as the holier-than-thou Guardian.

Of course, they would argue it isn''t racism, but I think that's a stretch. Imagine what would be said about endless articles attacking Jewish-American money and influence in English football. There would be outrage. Yet one is no worse than the other. Either both issues are racist or neither is. These people are in denial.

Was going to post similar. This bill will not have a chance of getting through as outlined but those proposing it will get giddy on it for little while.

The wording of the bill gives the power to the Secretary of State to force ownership change if state influence is involved in running a club so should not affect City. If the Government pushed ahead with this it would destroy inward investment in all UK industry especially from the Middle East. A disaster for the country.
Yeah but, go cartel whoo!!!

That’s the way I read it. I think There are lots of people who would be prepared to see the UK return to the Dark Ages as long as we were stuffed in the process. It’s beyond pathetic.

To use the phrase: "The people who run the club are despots" in relation to Citys ownership is a difficult one to prove if Liew was sued for libel. The dictionary definition of "despot" is a "ruler who rules in a cruel and oppressive way, a tryant." City are owned by Sheikh Mansour and Silver Lake. The people who run the club is a vague phrase but would certainly include Mansour and Khaldoon and possibly the management tier below Khaldoon. Not naming people is no protection against a libel action.
In theory Liew could be sued by multiple individuals. In that instance he would have to prove that his allegations were true. The burden of proof would lie with Liew and the publishers of the LFC Fanzine. At some point City are going to make an example of someone. Personally I think this would be a good moment to take action against Liew who has a track record of malicious comments.
