Known power.Incredible really.
Known power.Incredible really.
‘Twas always thus."The Land of the Free" just took on a whole different meaning!
But, do you accept it as right?‘Twas always thus.
This particular presidential power is only new to those who either didn’t know it existed or were not familiar with the fact that it has been used for almost 250 yrs!
That wasn’t exactly “news!” Telling people “I predict the sun is going to rise in the East and set in the West tomorrow” doesn’t get one a victory lap…even in the Bluemoon Politics thread! ;-)
And, anyone who thought Hunter was NOT getting a full pardon is insane!
Politicians taking power away from themselves?Do you want it changed?
I was just about to ask that; as in "is it normal to backdate for so long? Or is it uncommon?" Thanks for explaining again. The problem is two-fold:
1. People who said Joe Biden was lying when he promised to respect the decision of the jury, and that he would not pardon Hunter because no-one was above the law were excoriated at the time for saying Joe Biden was lying.
"But but Trump!"
You know Joe Biden? The one that calls Donald Trump and his MAGA Republicans a "threat to democracy" then meets him all smiles in the White House and promises a peaceful transition of power?
2. This is more than a "full pardon" which is always written with specificity. According to (I forget her name, I posted about her a few pages ago) the lawyer who worked in the DOJ from 1990 to 1997 as the "pardon expert" this pardon in it's scope and breadth and general nature is unlike any other ever, except the one granted Richard Nixon.
I accept it as A right. But, do you accept it as right?
He will but one won’t get on a plane to meet himI hope he pardons those 4 soldiers that were branded war criminals for a crime they didn't commit in the 80s..
No one seems to give much of a shit about the victims of the crimes folks get pardoned for.I maintain Garland’s DOJ was NOT weaponized.
I maintain ANYONE who thought Hunter Biden was going to jail is an imbecile.
I maintain anyone who thinks any Trump acolyte is going to jail is an imbecile.
If that is being an open partisan, then I guess I’m guilty. Can I get a pardon?
Well, I’m struggling to find the “victim” in Hunter’s conviction, but, as you say, other pardons are less clean cut.No one seems to give much of a shit about the victims of the crimes folks get pardoned for.
As I posted a couple of pages ago - the power to pardon and commute goes back to 7th century Wessex and in English law was a power reserved to the crown. But, do you accept it as right?
Trouble is many of the things enshrined in the constitution where not meant for modern day, number 2 springs to mind straight away, it was made when muskets were the weapon of choice not AR15s.I accept it as A right.
If I got hot and bothered about everything with which I disagree in the American justice system, my head would have exploded by now.
This RIGHT was enshrined in the Constitution. Changing that, especially for this, is as close to impossible as it gets. Think about political persecution and what the pardon power does.
Trump has been specific in his threats. Biden has protected his son from Trump’s vindictiveness, as ANY Father with such power would do.
I will not waste a second or a brain cell on this pardon. It was inevitable and foreseeable.
I accept it as A right.
Thanks for answering both of my posts honestly.Politicians taking power away from themselves?
What kind of storybook Fairy Tale is this?
2nd amendment. Before T-Shirts were invented too.Trouble is many of the things enshrined in the constitution where not meant for modern day, number 2 springs to mind straight away, it was made when muskets were the weapon of choice not AR15s.
Kushner's pardon really irks me.Well, I’m struggling to find the “victim” in Hunter’s conviction, but, as you say, other pardons are less clean cut.
Our Judiciary is NOT owned. That's simply how Left leaning Americans (mostly those here) frame it.Dax, The reason I stay in this thread and engage with yourself in particular who obviously sees things differently to me, is that I believe in seeing the world through other’s eyes if you want to learn anything.
But I’m not behind the door in calling a spade a spade instead of an agricultural excavational implement.
The irony of your response above is that when I have in the past tried to discuss and also to learn about your system that allows the judiciary in particular to be owned and corruption in general, yes you did address it and I’ll paraphrase again ( I know, I know- you hate it) - it is what it is and you have it in your country too!
I'm not sure that's what I said. Rather I think I said the us vs them mentality of politics vis everywhere in the West.To my recollection there was not so much an acknowledgment that the system is wrong, it was more - it’s everywhere in the world.
Do I want a less corrupt government? Come on man, who doesn't?Part of the problem is IF the world accepts that’s how you get things done. Never mind if you’re for Reps or Dems and I don’t get s vote but have admitted I don’t like Trump as a human being. But if both parties are corrupt and the world is too, how do we change that?
Do you want it changed?
You are pardoned.I maintain Garland’s DOJ was NOT weaponized.
I maintain ANYONE who thought Hunter Biden was going to jail is an imbecile.
I maintain anyone who thinks any Trump acolyte is going to jail is an imbecile.
If that is being an open partisan, then I guess I’m guilty. Can I get a pardon?
I actually didn't mean you were. My bad. I meant this was a general idea.I said nothing wrong. Republicans will go to town on this. Which you'd fully expect them to. The Democrats would do exactly the same if the roles were reversed.
By the way; I'm a long long way from being a" leftist".
Awww! Thanks for the affection, lovely :)I take great solace in knowing this is the best day of your life.
