Txiki Begiristain | Has left the club after 13 years (pg50)

My own personal opinion, so means fuck all in the scheme of things, is that the powers that be at the club are a lot less confident of winning the charges case than their public bolshiness would have us think.
I think we were keeping money back in case we're found guilty but our form has fallen off a cliff and these funds are needed now.
Well that opinion is as fair as any other. This thing with the charges is like a huge cloud hanging over everything at the moment. The club may well be demonstrating prudence just in case things go pear shaped, with Txiki obviously in the loop.

But delap was better than we had which was zilch cover for he Viking . We knew all summer alveraz wanted out so we left ourselves bare .
Delap was playing first team football, may not have wanted to be a bit part sub and probably wasnt good enough anyway.

City lokked st the lad at Celtic amongst others and decided they wernt at elite level.

Alvarez's dont grow on trees !!

A huge refresh is needed maybe upwards of 8 top players in the next 2-3 windows.

If we are in trouble with 115 it could utterly derail us, even if completely cleared on all charges it's going to be a hugely expensive job to rebuild this squad and we can't afford any more errors in terms of signing the likes of Nunes/Phillips.
8 players over 2-3 windows is not entirely unreasonable with a fair few departures likely.

Toney wasn't banned when we decided to let Alvarez go. Whilst posters are getting shot down for saying we needed a replacement for Alverez (which we did) it is on the basis of demanding they answer who with. That isn't our job. We have gradually over 3 years or so allowed good solid squad players to leave, without replacements coming in close to the exiting players level. Hopefully that improves with our new man coming in. Txiki done a good job, that's it.
Actually true about Toney, I appear to have lost a year :(

And if we had kept Delap then he'd have become the scapegoat every single time he played (which wouldn't have been often anyway). He wouldn't have been good enough to play, full stop. They were 3 terrible suggestions.

Well look at Palmer, us not providing a good chunk of playing time for youngsters means we won't know whilst with us their level. Delap, who knows, I agree he probably wouldn't have the football behind him to flourish as he is doing now. Not sure what the answer is, but there are quite a few who we had on our books who are doing really well elsewhere, that currently would do a good job for us. Had they stayed though, would they be their current day level? Probably not. If Foden wasn't a blue I don't think he would have stuck around.

And when our army of scouts and analysts come up with a shortlist but Pep doesn't fancy any of them. What is your suggestion?

Overrule him and buy the player?

Txiki isn't the sole executor of the transfers. When will people get this.

They go back and earn their wages by finding someone Pep is happy with, or could coach to be better at scoring goals than everyone we have now apart from Haaland.

There must be discussions within the club, I can’t see Pep just being shown a list and having to choose one or nobody. There are plenty of decent players out there, it’s the club’s job to find out who’s good enough and then if they’d be interested in signing. I’m sure lots of good players would be interested in playing for the champions and managed by Pep. It seems we didn’t try very hard to find them.

Just three strikers, off the top of my head, that would definitely do a decent job for us right now. There’s others of course, depends if you can be arsed searching - but our scouts and analysts should certainly be arsed, it’s their job!

Maybe put the trophies under each season, that's the true test, not your personal opinion of each player.
My personal opinion of Grealish is that he's been a hit. Others would say hit and miss. Not my personal opinion, just putting down the overall consensus.

Basically it started off poorly for Txiki, then improved massively with some really genuinely great buys, but is now inconsistent with his buys and approach.

He's been a fantastic DOF who has modernised the club and put it on the world stage, but is showing some signs of growing stale so now is the best time to change things.

You'd never expect a high success rate all the time. But his incomings have contributed to alot of trophies. He has also been successful in generating cash via selling academy lads etc.
Agreed. Been an excellent DOF but is showing signs of growing a bit stale in his methods so a change of approach from Viana will be welcome.

If a player doesn't have the right character to fit our club and be able to fit the way we play then they probably won't be coming, having said that mistakes are made, it's Txikis job to reduce the risk.

Well we are changing so it’s not really a debate. I just don’t think it turned stale ,I think many factors made last summer difficult, and he was operating with a fair few constraints. Constraints that all the club management were aware of. If Soriano and Khaldoon had said here’s a big budget, sell 4 players bring in 4 big players I’m sure he would have. That option wasn’t there.
We only bought a player from the group and Gundogan on a free for reasons only the board know, but I very much doubt it was because Txiki was stale or demob happy, or that it was some kind of a accident and cock up, it was a plan.

It’s very possible mate
Saying it’s very possible does not make it so.

We are very likely based on what’s been said on here not guilt at least of the most serious charges that would result in such a punishment. FFP PSR breaches have resulted in fines or points deductions other sporting sanctions for financial related things such as bribery etc have resulted in stripping of titles or relegation.

When have there been transfer bans ? What would it achieve ? How would it match the financial element ? We not over spending on transfers we are accused of inflating revenue.

Isn’t it the FA or FIFA or maybe UEFA that would need to implement it not the Premier league

You know what mate let’s just see what happens . Hopefully it’s thrown out and we then start again .
