How long will the rebuild take?

Walker is finished lets not kid ourselves or live in some parallel universe, the same applies to Gudo, are CB situation is critical.

We don't sort this out quickly we will finish mid table.
We don’t defend from set pieces or score from them , we don’t counter attack at all our build up is slow and predictable and our centre forward has the ball control of a five year old. Most teams have a settled defensive unit whereas ours is different every week due to injury or rotation our midfield has no legs in it and you could see this happening as the squad has not been refreshed for seasons. Reminds me of the state of the rags when Ferguson retired, he knew the writing was on the wall and the squad was fucked

The complacency of the execs not to refresh and reinvigorate the squad and the ridiculous loyalty to these players is fast coming back to bite us hard.

Turning down 30m for Walker from Bayern at his age and with the number of games in his legs was crazy, to then give him a new 3 year deal on 200k a week was utter madness.

John Stones can't play more than a couple of games a month in a good year, same sadly with Ake and again nothing done about it.

Never getting in a proper partner /rotation player for Rodri utter madness, the player himself pleading with the club to do so as he was running on empty.

We got away with so much last season, the form of Foden, Alvarez and to an extent Doku got us to a title but Fodens form has fallen off a cliff, Alvarez was sold and not replaced and Doku is Doku.

The rebuild is enormous
We need gone
Ederson (not looking happy)
Bernardo (wants to leave for years)
Stones (only for his injuries)
Ake (same)
Gundo (finished)
Walker(same)
KDB(legend but contract up )
Ortega(if he doesnt get #1 spot)
Grealish( not good enough)

Rebuild is huge and will take longer than the 2 years pep is staying

Edersons already checked out
Walker silva stones ake gundo grealish kdb maybe mcatee will be gone . Massive rebuild and you know Haaland might want out if this carry’s on . Too much of a rebuild for pep i think and too emotional for him as his attachment is plain to see . I knew we’d drop off this season as 4 in a row is so difficult and the players have given their all but this drop off tells me there is something else we don’t know about happening behind the scenes .

Eh?

We’ve just relied on our older players for too long, that’s all it is, combined with a terrible injury list, although the signs of our power waning was there last season really.

We put our FA Cup final defeat down to the players being pissed, well they’ve looked the same in most games since so either they haven’t sobered up yet or actually the end has arrived for too many.

Due to age and/or injury problems, I think we need to look at replacing the following over the next couple of windows:

Ederson, Walker, Stones, Ake, KDB, Gundogan.

Bernardo, Grealish and Kovacic probably all have a couple more years left in them but will also need replacing in the not too distant future.

Quite the rebuild is needed, especially in defence and midfield.

Our inability to beat the top teams in the League last year was a further warning light that our powers were waning.

We’ve taken the piss out the rags over the last few years because of how easy it is to bypass there midfield now somehow we have become exactly the same after loosing one player long term ,it’s frightening that we didn’t plan for rodders getting injured because 99% of our fanbase knew that we needed cover not only for him but a replacement for Kev well and truly let standards slip in the market in the last couple of years and we need to sort it starting jan

I was of the opinion that we wouldn’t make any signings in January

Penny pinching on average players has got us where we are today

I think we need at least one or two big names in January to refresh the squad and put the players on notice that’s it’s not all cosy anymore

I’d be going balls deep on Bruno G and a goal scoring winger - someone like Rodrygo if we could get him in Jan

We’ll have to overpay but that’s the position we are in

Another three in the summer and we’ll be back firing next year

It will be best part of £500m like

I remember in the documentary a clip of txixi sitting there with his stupid arrogant head on him saying " in the end we keep on winning " and its this arrogance which has led to today

If Rodri comes back fully fit next season then probably a couple of windows. However no guarantee of that happening. The good news is, looking at the club’s penny pinching over the last 5 seasons (transfer net spend v income) we have the funds to do it.

Right back? What about a left back we haven’t had a good one in decades. The top teams now have two quality full backs with back ups and play a traditional 4 across the back. Gvardiol isn’t a left back neither is Ake. Walker is getting past it. Lewis isn’t a right back neither is Stonesy. That’s the problem we’re having these days and why we’re looking vulnerable. We Continue to play square pegs in round holes. We only managed before because we had Rodri sitting deep controlling the play.
Left back as well. I think we bought 3 full backs after Pep’s first year when it was clear the players we had couldn’t play his football. We’re in the same boat again

there is NO fix in Jan, we may get lucky and pick a good player up but thats it, the Jan window is not a time for multiple players to be signing, Pep has no choice he simply has to fix what is wrong, im sad to say as it stands we will not be making top 4,anyone who seriously thinks we will have the blue tinted specs on, there is no chance as 3 place will be Liverpool,Arsenal,Chelsea, leaving one place for up to six clubs to slog it out and on current form we are not one of those six teams

I posted on here a few weeks ago about how strong the spine of the team is and why I think it won't take too long to fix, and I still believe that is the case. For instance, I think the following team is capable of challenging for the title and introducing Rodri to it would make us title favourites:

Ederson
Akanji, Dias, Ake, Gvardiol
Kova, Bernardo, Foden
Doku, Haaland, KDB

Right, now, however, we have two pretty glaring issues.

1. Three of our centre backs are injured and our full backs, Walker and Lewis, are crap. Teams have figures this out and are targeting them accordingly.

2. Gundo is really struggling in midfield on his own. This will improve when Kovacic is back (hopefully soon) but he isn't a silver bullet.

Clearly, therefore, we need two signings: and energetic and quality DM/ CM and a full back of similar characteristics.

Adding two such players in January and getting a couple of our injured centre backs fit would set us up well for the second half of the season.

I wouldn't be against a double swoop for Livramento and Guimareas, if Newcastle are willing to play ball.

Looking further down the line, we'll need a KDB replacement and a back-up striker next summer, but with Bobb returning in Jan, I think we can cope without until then.

They did, we brought in Kovacic.
