Txiki Begiristain | Has left the club after 13 years (pg50)

People keep mentioning letting Palmer go - in hindsight, obviously an error - but I think it was decided that Oscar Bobb was going to be a better bet. Bobb was looking superb pre-season and if it wasn’t for his unfortunate injury this season’s narrative may have been very different. We really have been devastated by injuries.

The quality of injured players goes up directly proportionately to the length of time they are injured.

Should be careful with judging players off pre-season.

Scott Sinclair was our best player in one pre-season, and Kelechi Iheanacho in a another.

Went through all of Txiki's summers.
It is of course Txikis fault that X, Y and Z were a miss because of injuries, player not settling, manager deciding on a different direction mir season and so on.

There's maybe 2/3 players on that list that I would objectively say are not good and should never have been bought.
They go back and earn their wages by finding someone Pep is happy with, or could coach to be better at scoring goals than everyone we have now apart from Haaland.

There must be discussions within the club, I can’t see Pep just being shown a list and having to choose one or nobody. There are plenty of decent players out there, it’s the club’s job to find out who’s good enough and then if they’d be interested in signing. I’m sure lots of good players would be interested in playing for the champions and managed by Pep. It seems we didn’t try very hard to find them.
Well we will never know. I refuse to believe that the club "didn't work very hard", performance analysis and recruitment is continuous, they aren't contractors we bring in for a summer. Pep has been given everything he has wanted since he arrived, signing after signing and hundreds of millions spent and then all of a sudden it stops. What was the reason?

We have no idea what constraints the club are working with in regards to the 115 case for starters and Pep could hardly have for seen a huge injury crisis.

Without the injuries we started the season unbeaten and we're going great guns.

You know what mate let’s just see what happens . Hopefully it’s thrown out and we then start again .
So you make a statement that prejudges the outcome negatively for City I might add. I refute that post and then you come back at me and say let’s wait. Why did you not wait before making a negative judgement ? Rag ?

We’ve been regarded as the best team in the world in recent years (along with Real Madrid) so the players were pretty good to start with.

Are for real . Why is it if someone makes a post and it seems negative they are a fucking rag ! What I said was we could get hit with a transfer ban and I used the word could not would and suddenly your all over it about what do I know but tbh I know the same as you which is fuck all zilch nothing . Rag ha get a fucking grip .

Txiki and Pep is the modern Brian Clough and Peter Taylor if one of Clough/Taylor were extremely average to poor at his job and the other so world class that he makes the other one look good. Happy retirement Txiki, a couple of years to late

For all the good he's done, it's obvious that last seasons' recruitment hasn't been good enough. Whether this was part of a succession plan or that there has been something with the pending law cases stopping us from getting new players, I don't know. Not totally convinced by Pep wanting a small squad either, signs were there last season already and this year we're really paying the price. Should we win the 115 case, Viana will probably have lots of funds to rebuild the squad with considering all the profits we've made recent seasons.

I cant help but very angry at him. as a director of football surely squad planning, transfer planning is part of his main tasks. setting overall football philosophy was done early on across all age levels so thats not something actively needs doing each year, but squad planning does need yearly follow up, changes, new ideas etc.

our transfer performance on the incoming side is pretty bad since the treble win. we used to say judge players in their second season as they might flop in their debut season but come to life in the 2nd season and have been examples of that, well Nunes, Doku, Gvardiol, I am not sure they have great seasons. Gundo and Savinho neither.

leaving the squad rely on quite old players in multiple positions, not enough alternatives for the crucial Rodri and Haaland, we have to use very old number 8s in umber 6 or a winger in striker position is our alternative. selling Alvarez without replacement..

I still dont understand what was our plan with Rice or Bellingham if we managed to get any of them. or even Paqueta. surely not to give them the role and minutes of Nunes.

not much makes sense since the treble win. but we are paying now the price of it.

Might all be part of the 115..we drop out of everything..prem may go easier on us

He knows the size of the task it's going to be to rebuild and I think that's the main reason he's leaving. Huge task for Viana to reinvigorate this squad

Built a team that dominated English football. I’ll never have a bad word to say about him. Yeah, we’re fucking wank at the minute but we’re currently knee deep into an injury crisis. We should have refreshed the squad last summer, but what can we do now? I don’t think it’s right to slag off any management or player that has brought us so much success. Viana will be here next summer, which is exciting, but in the same time interesting as we gauge how good Txiki was.

This is the man that should be sacked tomorrow if we still want to be a ambitious club that holds people accountable for their perfromances.

he and his scouts decided Nunes is the signing that is going to help us after we missed out on Bellingham, Rice, Paqueta. a year after they decided Kalvin Phillips will be a shrewd signing.

now we are paying the price for these transfers on the pitch while we still pay their hefty amortized fees for them for a bit more years.

to be fair losing patience with Doku as well if he is ever gonna be a great winger for us scoring/assisting regularly as his off the ball play is a big weakness already and not much in the offensive side of his games this season.
