United (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

Although we were shit today it's hardly the first time United have beaten us at home.
I said some time back I felt he might be nearing the end of his stay. There was something terminal about that display today. If he is to turn this around he must start soon.
having a difficult 2 months does not mean things are terminal. He cannot just turn things around at the moment but it will come probably towards the end of January but an improvement when defenders return in the next couple of weeks.

In our lives we’ve all gone through bad patches, keep calm and plan logically to get through it accepting things may not change overnight

Dont think you can blame Pep for schoolboy errors that are costing us dearly. Yes he has to take overall responsibility but no matter how good a mechanic is, he needs the right tools to do a proper job.City presently do not have the right tools. Quality players that are passed their used by date and players brought in that are inferior to those quality players. It's not rocket science. January will be a critical month to improve the squad.

Doesn’t change the fact we’ve gone as a team. We are above some other shit teams as well but we don’t look like winning a game anytime soon so won’t be 5th for long
If this carries on over Christmas we'll probably be in the bottom half going into the new year

Agreed. Let's not panic and rush into crap decisions.

That said, I watched Zulu Dawn yesterday and the commander of the British Forces bollocked a messenger with the words 'Stop panicking. A professional soldier keeps his head in times of stress so that he can make the right decisions'. The British forces were then massacred!

I'm pissed off with that today. We were not in total control at any point really but were doing what was necessary. Then we have an episode of total ineptitude within a couple of minutes to hand the tosspots a victory. Diabolical play at the back by us.

My point is he may not be able to turn it around in his own mind. Anyway we will find out soon.

I honestly thought after the treble season we would really struggle but last year surprised me. This year it’s really caught up with us. This season now will most likely be damage limitation and aim to finish 4th if that’s even possible? Pep will have to take this year to learn a different way to play, make a couple of signings in January and the same again in the summer. The squad just needs a freshen up.

I said to my lad at half time we need another 2 goals to be sure of winning this and I wasn’t wrong. Sometimes we just look devoid of ideas and pass it around like the old arsenal used to do, but if anyone can do a rebuild and find a way, pep can.

What a shit-show that turned out to be. Rags were shite and get a stupid ‘in’ from a player who has been decent until that point. Then, smack a ball where we just can’t control, where certain players must take responsibility.

Sometimes it’s luck, sometimes it’s quality. We have neither of them at the moment.

Jesus, my local FB Group is full of Rag posts after today, the group rarely does football.

Rags crawling out from under rocks, they're like those Aliens in war of the worlds, buried and hidden for years.

That's what today has done, if you want a Norwich scarf bob down to your local Charity shop tmrw, it will be full of them.

City gear on all week for me, fucking Rags, still 13th aren't they.

Still pissed with that collapse though!

This slow and ponderous and build up play against a wall of 8 or 10 players is clearly not working anymore and Pep needs a completely new way of playing to break this run of poor results. Nothing else will change it. Haaland looks uninterested and fed up and will want out if this continues. Imagine him in this young vibrant Chelsea team, he would be loving it and racking up the goals.
We're playing possession football slowly edging up the pitch to the oppositions goal area taking 2 or 3 minutes. We then concede possession with a misplaced pass and the other team is knocking on our door within 10-15 seconds. It's unreal.

Pep is clearly struggling and under self imposed stress due to his very high winning standards. He’ll come through this as will the fans and club, fix one thing at a time and develop realistic plans for when we can see improvements in what areas. A remediation plan needs the small things to go right one element at a time to build a much larger change, when the initial improvements are made and plans look to be working then mood changes can be transformational.

The current situation is almost impossible to improve so it’s just a case of riding the storm

I can handle defeats and I’ve seen enough over the years but getting home and seeing Walker go down like a bag of shit has really really pissed me off. He’s the fucking Captain!! Get rid ASAP

I've thought the same. The number of times that Nicolas Jackson is freed up to run in on goal is impressive. Now Jackson is a really good player but can you imagine if they replace Jackson with Haaland and he is running free at the goal? If we want to keep Haaland then we need to find a way to weaponise him. Pep may need to switch to a higher risk strategy that allows the other side more of the ball which in turn means they will attack more which in turn means there is more space for Haaland to operate.

It was stupid, but players dive and feign injury all the time.

A player threw himself to the floor and got Rodri sent off last season but Walker has had more abuse on here tonight than him.

Walkers pathetic play acting is as embarrassing as the result today. The guy has obviously been a big part of the greatest City team ever and for that im grateful, but I wouldn't be sad if he never wore the shirt again.

Big test for Pep. The game has moved on and just trying to recreate another version of this City will probably not work. Wenger tried that at Arsenal and he and they just went steadily downhill so it's certainly not easy for a 'great' to reinvent themselves and adapt their thinking to a blank sheet and start again. We will see.

Interestingly, Arsenal have three ex City players (Jesus, Sterling and Zinchenko) and all look to have regressed since leaving City. So maybe the way City play is just mentally and physically exhausting. Remember Rodri complaining about the number of games last year?

Maybe, as others have said, we need a much larger squad so that burn out is avoided. We have 16 players earning more than £100,000 a week with 9 earning more than £200,000 a week! Bournemouth, who could overtake us in the League tomorrow, have 1 player earning £150,000 and the rest less than £100,000! So maybe, now that we are pretty much established as a top team we could attract really good players on 'realistic' sustainable wages? For instance, Antonee Robinson, Fulhams left back is on £50,000! Brentford's Brian Mbeumo is on £50,000. Matheus Cunha of Wolves is on £50,000. Now of course they would expect more at City and transfer fees are needed but all tree are good enough to get into the City squad without paying elite level wages.
Bournemouth barely break 10,000 crowds so they can’t justify higher salaries unless they’re winning trophies.

We aren't going like Kyle Walker's antics but that is part and parcel of modern football and there isn't a single club who will not try that to gain an advantage. I am cutting him slack because we don't have any alternatives for season. We aren't going pluck out another RB from thin air.
