If the rot continues what happens ?

That was my point really. Had we ever before seen the players drop their professional standards like that? They effectively threw the game.

I know it was an outlet after a gruelling, but still successful, season but they might have waited a few days.

Was there a suggestion that we’ve seen it all and done it all now?
Well it pissed me off then and I mentioned it on here a few weeks back. League and FA cup double beating them in the final as well, would have been marvellous.

Nice sentiment but totally unnecessary as I doubt anybody is thinking of giving up on the team just because of a poor run of results.
We all want the best for City whether that's with or without Pep, with or without KDB, Gundo and Walker, with or without Doku, Grealish and Nunes. Some want to give their opinions as to the best way forward which may upset others, but one win in eleven games is the perfect opportunity to suggest alternative ways to get City back to the top.
I'll still be a blue tomorrow. Do I get a gold star?
You totally missed my ‘Sentiment’ people will give up, the Tourists, the half and half scarf crew to name a couple.
Your welcome to your gold star and you can stick it where the sun don’t shine !

There are several players who should not be playing apart from 10 minutes to see out a game we are comfortably winning. Remember those!
Walker, Gundoghan, Nunes.
There are quite a few that cannot be relied upon to stay injury free but are still good players when not injured.
Stones, Ake and Akanji. On balance one of them at least should be fit to play alongside Dias.
So we need a RB now to partner Dias, Stones and Gvardiol. Akanji can do it but given the injury record of Stones and Ake he'll be playing plenty of games at CB.

Midfield? Where to start? Kovacic and the new midfielder?
In front of them
Phil who is showing signs of life. Kevin and Bernardo, but not at the same time, Doku or Grealish depending on the opposition.
Haaland up top.
So 3 signings in January. As everyone knows a RB, CM and a goalscoring 10 to give Erling some support and rest.
On paper this sounds good. But the biggest problem the squad faces I feel is mental. We've, the players, have lost belief in each other and in Pep's way of playing.
Lots of talking needs to take place in the dressing and new leaders need to emerge form the younger group.
I agree with virtually everything you say. I'd just add an opinion that Kova is very limited imho and already 30, isn't going to improve and as a grade down from the likes of Ferna and Rodri, should be considered only as a back-up player anyway. He's in for the season now that Rodri's 'had it' for the season, so we are functioning below top level as long as he has to be our number 1. (Gundo is a level - or 2 - below Kova currently, and isn't looking like getting back to his former standard.)

Pep will not change our style of play because we've been losing for the last couple of months so we may as well get used to this. He is shuffling his few players to make things fit and it just won't work because the players he needs are either injured or they just don't have the ability anymore. This we know and there has been 100s of posts on the forum that are similar (one more now).

In Pep's systems all the gears have to mesh or the machine breaks, of vital importance is DM and also the full backs and herein we have the biggest issues. When Fernandinho was missing we had big issues, same now with Rodri and the bad news is that we have to wait for recruitment to resolve this

Once these are fixed the other players will not instantly improve but shape will return to the team because Foden, Silva, Haaland do become bad players overnight

I think the PL will wait till the season's finished, see how many points we are above the relegation zone, factor in an appeal, and then deduct the figure that puts us in 18th place!
Its outside the PL remit they have no influence on the decision or what it should be released they are just one of the parties in the case An appeal will only be possible on grounds of the panel making a mistake

I think ultimately the club have got stuck in two minds. For the past four years and beyond we have had unprecedented success. The most successful English club side in history, you cannot debate facts!!

However the club have got caught up in the success and when we should have changed the squad more and mixed it up we just haven’t. Now hindsight is a wonderful thing but if we are all honest most of us would have had a problem and been unhappy over the last 4 years if we had let certain players go even if it was the right thing to do.

It’s the same with regretting letting players go. Now I personally have always thought that we should try our youth players more than we do and never wanted us to sell Palmer or Lavia but you can’t complain when you still win the league and I didn’t for one minute expect we would be languishing in 5th whilst Chelsea are second with our former coach and 4 of our youth team players in their squad.

I guess the long drawn out point I am making is that the club acted like a sentimental fan while we winning every season when we should have acted efficiently and looked to the future much better than we have done.

I must be honest to myself though I would probably have done the same because these players are legends of the club for what they have achieved. And now we are stuck in a run that 9 out of 10 teams would have sacked their manager but he is the greatest manager we have ever had and possibly ever will so now we are all confused because we want things to change but also don’t want things to change at the same time.

My head is fried

1 signing in January won't make any difference

We need at least 3.... a right back, a defensive midfielder and a striker
Only if the 3 players we want are available, and we can make room in the squad.I expect 1 maybe 2 plus Echeverri. It will either be enough to get us top 4 this season or it won't. I think it would. Whatever the main changes will be in the summer

Best time to make signings and change things is when you are on top (might be fergie who said that but it's true).
We didn't. We stood still and went backwards.

Nearly any player is available if 1. the price is right and 2. we sell them a vision. There MUST be an acceptance at board level that we will have to spend. This is effectively what happened at Liverpool when they decided they had to go against their usual style and spend a fortune on VVD and Alison. We know we need a 6, its imperative, we know we need a 9 or a hybrid because the answer just doesn't exist anywhere in the squad, we need full backs and potentially a centreback as well. Either we spend or they have to accept that we will prob not get CL next season and live with it. Be open to the fans and let us lower our expectations at the same time.

I remember Liverpool in their great years of the 70's / 80's

The squads were much smaller then, but their policy every summer was to replace the weakest player in the team

In this game if you stand still you go backwards
