Support Pep

Pep and Manchester City have been one and the same. Now that Foden, Kovacic and Grealish are fit, we have an opportunity to recover. KDB is capable of moments but I do not want to see Gundogan and KDB start another game together because they are too old and slow. We now have top class midfield alternatives who are fit and ready. Play them.
 
Injuries are a pain. And i'm not too bothered about our current spell.
We have had it so good for so long, it would be greedy and immature to spit the dummy out now.

However, i do feel some of the problems are down to Pep, not just injuries. I also don't feel "the players are letting him down"
He is the one putting players in the wrong positions. You could argue "needs must", but what about our academy/youth players getting a chance? There isn't much point having a world class academy if the manager won't give them a chance even when we are desperate.

Pep is also the one who decided to run a smaller, leaner team. Players weren't replaced when he allowed them to leave.
John Stones is magnificent when fit, but rarely is. Philips didn't settle and wasn't a viable back up for Rodri.
So that was/is two positions that need filling. Left back is almost an historical vacancy at City. And Walker is declining on the other side.

Debruyne is getting old. Injuries was always going to be a problem. Impossible to replace, but we do have the money to try.
Nunes was a strange decision. However, recently he has shown promise. Not sure about his backbone though.
Grealish gets stick for not scoring, but i always feel safer when he is playing. The "english" tax doesn't help him justify his price tag.
Rico Lewis has been shockingly bad in defence. But he is in no way to blame. That's on Pep.
We are not a one man team. All Rodri's absence did was highlight problems in other areas.

Pep isn't/shouldn't be beyond criticism. He's the one getting all the plaudits for the success.
So right now he needs to get his head back in the game. Make better decisions. Make better substitutions and make them earlier. (not with ten minutes to go!)
I'm happy to write the whole season off if it gives him breathing space, time to rejig and rebuild the squad.
I still think he is the right man for the job. And i have every faith he will do it.

Until foden rediscovers some form think gundo will have to play.

Those small squads & allowing people to leave rather than fight for a place is what made us a success. If it works 6/8 seasons then it works.
 
The team needs a rebuild that’s all.

I still think we have more than enough good players already but it’s obvious we are missing a few top tier game changers.

Having an inferior manager come in now to sort it out would go the same way as the rags. I do believe the club tried to do what’s right for the players it just didn’t work unfortunately.

You can’t replace people like Kev,Gundo, Bernie, Walker while they are still at the club. Instead we have tried to build a squad to complement them and step in when needed.

Now it’s serious rebuild time I expect them to get it right.

Any player called now to come to city and pep and says no is not worth the hassle. Time we realised our size and throw our weight around.

Peps position is never in doubt. Khaldoon will keep supporting him.

I wouldn't argue with that. But with it comes the risk that injuries have a bigger impact.
However, we did have an early warning what happens when Rodri is injured. Pep allowed Philips to leave without a replacement.
I do wonder if Gundogan returning had an effect on that decision. There were noises long before it was official etc.

Almost all title winners can have a bad season the year after. How we have managed four in a row is outstanding.
It just shows the press and other teams have been gagging for this to happen.

I don't think we have collapsed. Just a bad run with injuries, and a few poor decisions.
Weird how the last ten minutes versus the Rags changed the narrative from crisis to collapse.
If we had kept our heads, i feel we could already be putting this behind us and the scum press back in their boxes.

I'll tell you what, the next few wins (whenever they happen), will be much sweeter than normal!

Rodris replacement is Kovacic, Stones & Akanji. We were top of the league & only unbeaten team in Europe with Rodri sidelined.

The physicality of the team has been lost & as players come back they have to find form on the pitch rather than the training ground. Clearly Walker & KDB have come back early which leaves people thinking they are washed up. Kovacic struggled with the pace when he came on.
 
Shouldn't be an or our business, I wish them both well and hope the family can remain happy.

As people point out the biggest pressure now will be people gazing in, speculating and spreading unfounded theories.

The post match press conference tonight Pep doesn't do it, simple as. The next one after that our press officer makes it astoundingly clear that this subject is not on the table and anyone who ignores that faces a ban for themselves and their employer from future City pressers.

There had been a mutual understanding of sorts before amongst the more decent sports journalists, but my scepticism tells me that we're so hated that someone is bound to try and prod that wound. We do not need to fan any flames.
