Seems to me for whatever reasons,probably a few of them and we can all hazrard various guesses at , we decided last summer not to spend and try and squeeze another season out of this squad. I don’t beleive it’s an accident we only bought a CFG player and a last minute Gundogan on a free.It was a decision made by those at the top of the club.The board wasn't in a rush to sign Bruno G. The had certainly over gambled by re signing Gundo but we did rest Rodri for the two games (one of which was vs Chelsea) and introduced him against Arsenal who decided to do a hatchet job on him and ended his season.
