Callum Doyle

At the base of another impressive team performance yesterday. Don’t think he’s at fault for either goal conceded and he’s fairly pinging the ball with confidence.

Another goal for Borja Sainz and more for the increasingly impressive young Croat: Crnac. Does he have a higher ceiling? @vanchi

Still difficult to say until we see him playing at the top level, but I think he could ultimately be shaped to play in the role that Stones has filled. He’s not blessed with great pace, which concerns me at fullback or at centre back, especially when playing a high line, but he more than makes up for that with a sharp football brain and his ability to pick a pass. Given the ageing defence we have and their expiring contract dates, keeping Doyle for 25-26 would make more sense than another loan or sale. Akanji, Dias, Gvardiol, with Doyle stepping forward could be a solid platform.
Great player not a fan of his at left back because of the lack of pace I believe foden worked with a sprint coach maybe something we could do with calum think he was originally a midfielder food for thought.

With callum the Norwich supporters where hoping there was a clause that they could buy him after his impressive season so far but plenty complaining what's the point if we got promoted they'd only sell him I think there owned by an American profit management company sounds familiar? Another vote for are red friends if they got promoted

Over the last few years we probably have.
I'm just talking about the younger players.

Are we better off with Doku, Echeverri and Savio than we would be if we still had Delap THB Lavia Palmer.
I think Doku & Savio will be ok given time (I dont know much about Echeverri) but you make a fair point about recent dealings.

Hardly comparable are they, excepting for Palmer/Doku/Savio the rest are different positions and Palmer made his own bed regardless.

A couple of old boys at my Cardiac Rehab gym who are season ticket holders at Carrow Road, reckon he'll play for England someday, they rate him that highly ......

.... that said, they also reckon Kane was abysmal when on loan to them.

Not such a good day at the office yesterday. Got caught early with a ball played around him and slipped in the run up to the third, though heaven knows why his teammate played the ball back to his right foot in the first place. One very good forward pass that split the lines, which is a skill we sorely miss. Norwich City do look fragile at set pieces and Doyle is not a commanding presence in the box. More generally, one wonders why there’s still no VAR in the Championship.

I agree. We’ve signed players who aren’t as talented as our academy players. I think that’s a failing on the club to recognise long term potential.

I think some in the club can recognise the potential, it’s finding a way whereby they can fulfill that potential at the club. That’s the problem.
Guardiola has oft repeated that he prefers a small squad because he believes players have to be playing regularly to maintain form. The downside to that philosophy, however, is that those players will burn out, sooner than they might otherwise, and even faster when allowed to age together. If we continue with that philosophy, the club will enjoy good harvests, even the occasional bumper one, but it will also have the occasional bad one, maybe two.

Clean sheet for Norwich City - that’s apparently when you don’t concede, not even from the first shot on target…

Anyway, back at left-back for Doyle and showing good passing to split lines, overlapping at pace, and getting into position quickly to clear at the back post. Also seems to be comfortable enough in his surrounds and abilities to give his teammates a rollicking, which bodes well. Might need more leaders in defence soon.

THB has been sold. We have a buyback but Doyle would make more sense imo.
I know. But when saints get relegated THB could move on to another club and we have that buy back. Should be looking just in case. Doyle looks great as well.
