If we held a genuine interest in the players then we've obviously been knocked back. Bruno G because of the fee, and Zubi because he doesn't fancy the move.

We are dealing with hypotheticals here - but what fee is big enough for us to say No, we rather play Gundo or Lewis again.
We did the same with rice and we end paying enough for Nunes.

Take this with a pinch of salt if you want, but heard from someone before that City do accept internally that the recruitment over the past 2/3 years has been not good enough for what we needed given everything. January is being taken seriously apparently. Doesn't mean we'll sign anyone, but I do think this January window will be different than the others - think there will be a genuine intention to sign someone for once.

Ta! No idea why they didn't have this realisation during the summer when they had opportunity to address it.

If it’s true we can’t get Bruno G or Zubimendi in January that’s pretty worrying. Any other semi-available midfielder is a big downgrade to those two

Who's the best athletic, hard working midfielder in Italy? Sign them. They don't even need to be amazing, they just need to be able to run and get stuck in.
Manù Kone. He is word class. But you should buy him last summer. Now is very expensive.
Last your two transfer window were awful. And now you have an old team without replacements.

We are going to get tucked up in January because we failed to ‘fix the roof when the sun was shining’ - the club will have to suck that up. What alternative is there at this stage? We are sinking down the league.

Zubi is going to be like Rice though - if they don’t want the move, it ain’t happening and we shouldn’t blame the club for that.

Zubi - I don’t even care about. Clearly he loves Bilbao and Spain weather. Nothing wrong in not looking for new pastures.

My point is more to do with City’s stance of not paying fees because it’s not what they think the player is worth for.
Simple business tells us it’s the seller that decide what is a particular player worth for.

They need to overpay to stop the bleeding and my outside view tells me Newcastle need to sell to buy and they are okay with selling Bruno rather than Isak or Gordon.
Isak scored a hattrick for them today. They would want some cash to make sure they are in a condition to say no to offers that may come for Isak come this summer.

Bruno G and Dani Almo present good opportunities to buy and i would hate for City to take the ethical high road of not paying when conditions clearly demand the same.

We paid 110 million for Mendy and Walker - a record total for fullbacks because we were clearly purging the old Pellegrini squad.
It brought dividends.
We need to show the same ambition now unless it’s the charges.
Then I am okay for Mcatee and Reilly being our main midfield in League 1.

I don’t disagree with you - being over cautious on fees is going to cost us big time.

I’m praying we get a deal for Bruno G done. It would be ironic if we dick about haggling and that leads to NUFC selling Isak to AFC instead. What a disaster that would be.

After that Bruno and Zubi briefing, I have no clue who they’ll go for. We’ll likely all be disappointed by the way.

I just hope whoever they get they actually think they can make an impact long term. We’ve had so many duds over recent years especially in the midfield. I’d argue lads from Valencia, Torino etc won’t be saving our season anyway.

They get the next batch of signings wrong and we are consigned to a “banter era”

It's just nice to hear that they know they're wrong. Impossible to ignore at this point though I guess.
I second this but to be honest, I don’t even have much faith in them to get this next segment of signings right.

Given our recent record, I don’t think that’s controversial in the slightest.
