Aston Villa (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

I don't 't need to mate. I'm on about some of the claptrap you come out with.
Clap trap, nice one, havn't heard that one for a long time.

2 eyes.

2 ears.

1 mouth.

Try using them in that proportion eh, might stop you sounding so stupid and shallow.

Clap trap....i like it and may start using it, but in your case ill simply state that your chatting shit !!

Compliments of the season to you and yours.

Today was horrible. That second half was the worst of the lot. Dreadful performance from the team and from Pep.
Spot on, some will not call the manager out but he is doing nothing to address this run.

Thinking of the "injury crisis" a crisis is when you have to blood numerous youngsters and play inexperienced players

We haven't had to do that, our team sheets have been strong throughout this disastrous run. Yes there are players out of position but Pep continues to play the same way with square pegs in round holes.

We were shit yesterday and I reckon any team in the league would have beaten that performance from us.

They could have won 4/ 5 - 1 yesterday, what the fuck did we create, again!

I'm thinking now, a lot of those big earners know they are out the door end of the season, they don't give a shit.

The euphoria over Peps extension has backfired completely.

Looks like he and half the squad were off, an unexpected u turn and he has to make do with a team that was to be broken up.

He should have been made to extend at the end of the season with a squad refresh or, announced his departure at the end of this season.

A year out of CL at this time when football finances and us in particular are under so much scrutiny will be a fucking disaster.

It was a lot worse when Peter Swales was around I can assure you

Good post but don’t necessarily agree with your last sentence. The club boast about huge profits and income, all our rivals have years out of the CL but they don’t collapse in a heap, plus this squad needs the dead wood shipping out and some of our academy players getting a proper chance. Basically we cut our cloth accordingly.

Don't know you know (sound like Connor Cody:-)

Our figures are based on outstanding team performance over the last few years, prize money, CL runs, TV exposure and the sponsorship rewards these brings.

A lot of that dissappears with a poor season.

Our match day income is nowhere near the big London Clubs and the 2 Northern glory hunting FC's

Our attempts to increase match day revenue through ticket price increases is backfiring with seats going unsold.

Who can afford £100 on Boxing Day for Dad and Lad for example, to attend a 12:30 ko to see an under performing team.

All fair points, especially our match day income being a good bit behind the cartel twats.
Like you I always had a minor panic when it looked like we may miss out on CL, but these days I don’t care that much. Plus if we are to move into a rebuilding phase the added distraction of the CL is something we can probably do without. Plus plus I want us to win the UEFA Cup to complete the set!

Depends on the outcome of the charges I guess but I agree to a degree that it’s not essential. It will mean spotting and buying players who can come in and do the business without spending £100m on them though. Hopefully this new DOF can do that.

Brighton seem to find good players at low prices, Liverpool too to an extent. We need to get better at this going forward.
Absofuckinglutely. We’ve pissed so much money up the wall on shite these last few windows we really need to up our game.

I still hope we will it this year,

Finish 5th with shit Rags scraping 4th.

They miss out on CL next season.

Missing out on CL next season (despite how much some on here hate the competition) would be disastrous financially, both in the short term missing income, plus longer term due to not being able to attract the calibre of players we'll need for one of our biggest rebuilds in history. That's not even thinking about the excess seats we'll need to fill in the renewed North Stand. This club is no longer built for life outside of that competition.

This is a very reasoned comment and pretty much how I feel about it all.
I don't think think the players have given up or don't care. A lot of them have been with us for a number of years and I am sure they consider themselves blues. But as you say they probably realize, due to a number of different factors they just can't do it/ aren't good enough to do it, at that level anymore.

Our wage bill is head and shoulders the highest in the country. Missing out on Europe at a time when we need to invest to rebuild the team is a huge problem.

We can’t lose £100m+ of CL tv money and 6 home games and it not have a huge impact on PSR. That’s without whatever lies in story with 115 !

We are tailspinning to mid table and it’s gonna get worse in the next few weeks.

Thank fuck we picked up points at the start of the season cause I can’t see us picking any more up anytime soon.

I have to say fair play to Erling Haaland.
He’s blaming himself for our results according to all the back pages.
It shows firstly a degree of insight and secondly that he still loves this club and it’s manager. It’s an effort to take the pressure off Pep and shows real dignity.
He’s not throwing his toys out of the pram and wanting to abandon ship as many who support other clubs would want him to.
He’s definitely not been at his best and acknowledging this is a sign of his commitment.
Good lad!

Keep them for a rainy day 2 or 3 seasons down the line?

Madness this.

Not one person was crying out for any of the above to play weekly instead of the regulars until this season when they’re now out of form.

And no one even asks if those above would be willing to sit in the under 23’s etc for 2 or 3 seasons waiting on their chance.

Hindsight is such a wonderful thing. And bollocks.

But it was absolutely fine having the likes of Nunes and Phillips hanging around contributing fuck all for 2-3 years?

There’s literally no universe where having those 2 would have been better than keeping Palmer and Lavia.

The only person taking bollocks is you.

On an unrelated matter. Gotta say, I thought the Villa fans treatment of Grealish yesterday was disgusting. This is one of their own, and actual fan, who could have left them years before he did, and only chose to leave to progress his career and actually win something. Yet they boo, swear and do snake noises to him. Shows how pathetic they are that they could only be bothered doing it at the start and end of the game. Part time haters

We had an obvious and relatively successful tactic of drawing the Villa defence to the ball and thus isolating Grealish to run at Cash.
However that's where you need either the overlapping left footer (Bernardo at Old Trafford last season) or Grealish to be more direct.

Instead, apart from the one chance for Gvardiol and a couple of crosses (with only Haaland in a goalscoring position) we seemed more intent on recycling or winning a cheap free kick

That's fine when Rodri's conducting possession, but futile when we're asking Gundogan to play the same role and Villa are threatening with every counter attack

On the bright side, in the new year all players at all clubs are fucked. But our players are generally at a higher skill standard, hence I am confident we will pick up a decent amount of points in the new year like we usually do. We need to stop this doom loop stuff, whatever happens will happen, I will still turn up every home game even if it’s to play Rochdale in the National League.

He won't be hanging around if he continues feeding off scraps, it's absolutely pathetic how this team has suddenly become devoid of any creativity whatsoever. If this slump continues and he continues his goal drought I can see him being off in the summer
