Everton (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

There comes a time when some players just can't hack it any more at top level, and drop off the pace etc.
That's where we are now. Pep's style works, but only if he's got the players capable of following it. Right now, largely due to poor succession planning, he doesn't have that luxury.
As an experienced coach, he should be able to adapt his style/system to suit the players he has available to him... i.e. build around getting the ball forward quicker to Haaland.
The problem is that, in my view, Pep is risk averse. He's seen his (version of Johan Cruyff's) style of play being successful for so many years, he's scared of changing tack so significantly.
Read a great article about cruyffs time at barca coming to and end.
He stubbornly refused to change.

Sound familiar?

It's not change needed at the Etihad, it's evolution. BUT, the longer we leave it, the more that evolution will need to become a desperate revolution.

We need to go back to Cruyff's 4-3-3 basics, with a flat back four & rebuild our form & confidence from there. Aside from the first 30 minutes at Klanfield, no one has dominated & played us off the park for significant periods.

Regardless of injuries, we're honestly not that far off a return to form imo. HOWEVER, as you pointed out from the article, is Guardiola a man for turning, or REturning to the 4-3-3 from whence he came?

He does seem very resistant to change for some reason, high line is the most glaring example. Seems like a reasonably easy fix not to bomb 10 forward and leave a whole half for the opposition to run into, yet here we are week after week :(

I hope you are right about a return to form blue.

People have a right to be concerned this is the worst run since Agent Hughes got the chop after a string of draws. Yes credit is well earned and banked but this rut has an end of the line feel about it. If the poor results continue expect the boos to grow in January.
Boos? Didn’t hear any from the East Stand?

Many of the opinions in this thread would not exist if Haaland scores that penalty.
That's how much value they have as serious critiques

As matters stand, I would gave been (relatively) happy to have seen us lose in the last minute, if our performance had shown any real improvement.

A 2-1 win yesterday would have done no more than temporarily cover up the cracks that still exist.

The Leicester game is a must-win. It's time to get back to basics. Defend deeper and use the counter attack to feed Haaland. He's being completely wasted in our current system.

It's a coping mechanism. Some would come to the conclusion that others already have at some point down the line, and some just cannot accept any criticism of the current situation. Remember what we've achieved, but it's time to look to the future now.
You find dick pics on your wife’s phone, you bin her regardless of the 15 great years and 3 wonderful kids

I think hes a man who wants to prove himself right

Bollocks, the poster before said maybe Kevin is livid about risking long term health - then maybe he shouldn't be playing at all.
You said he is not livid at taking his wages , sounded much like you called him mercenary

the lack of respect to kev is astounding , taking bits of gossip and saying that is what he is thinking or doing when we know kev inside out and how much he enjoys being here and tries his best , playing injured , trying to help the team

The poster said he would be livid about risking his long term health by being asked to play football - if that's the case then he's simply no longer up to the job - it's happened to many others throughout the years. Being livid about being asked to play football was what triggered me

Do you honestly believe he is pissed off about being asked to play football ? If he has long term health worries he should retire from belgium, i know he binned a couple of games off whilst recovering from injury but he hasnt retired

I am just frustrated that the charactsr of kev is being brought into question and also pep , pep and kev respect each other , if kev says he is injured still then pep would not ask him to play . He was out five months, an operation and that is always going to be a stop start return, if anyone deserves a bit of proper recovery time it is him

I am thinking of quitting the forum, so many negative comments from people who have no experience of getting through tough times. Get a life! We have a good chance of getting back among the top four within a month if we can get players fit again, and it only takes a couple of wins to get back up there, we are not going to win the Premier League this time but get behind the team or fuck off

My initial reply was to a post saying they bet de Bruyne is livid with risking his long term health by playing. My reaction was to that.

The rest of it doesn't really matter. He's ran out of legs. It's very sad because he's a top 3 all time player for us - where will depend on personal preference. I think a few of us thought he decline might be sudden when it came around, but it's still shocking & we can help buy hanker after the player we remember

If Kevin De Bruyne is livid at anything it is that his body can't win us games on its own anymore, and he is probably livid that no other fucker is stepping up in his absence.

Kevin De Bruyne is a perfectionist and a winner, and when he is gone we need to replace his mentality as much as we need to replace his feet

This is a guy that similiarily to Roberto Mancini fucked off from his home basically as a child because he was obsessed with only one thing, and that was to become the best footballer he could possibly be. Similiarily to Bobby Manc, he holds both himself and others to the highest standards and will be livid when they aren't reached

Totally agree, hysterical blues plus others gloating , this place is a cesspit right now . When we get back to winning ways at least they will fuck off
