It is worrying, though, that we are already hearing things like "too expensive", "difficult to sign in January". These statements are simply not accurate since many players have release clauses or have contracts ending in the summer. These sound to me like excuses already to justify why we won't be signing anyone. If you think about it, Gvardiol and Haaland aside, when is the last time we signed some truly world-class talent and not a project player? Sure, we have signed some great players for squad-depth, but we are at a stage when squad-players simply won't cut it anymore, and it's only our fault that we need to do this business right now. Who made the call that Savinho and Gundogan are enough in the summer? That was truly shocking decision making. All that in light of record breaking profits for a couple of years now. Unacceptable. If you are not moving forward, you're moving backwards. I said at the end of the 2022/23 season, that Liverpool are going to be our main threat in the 23/24. They weren't, but I wasn't far off, because they are miles ahead of us now, and I said it in light of them signing some really good player at that time. I wanted them here and they were available at reasonable prices. They weren't the only ones too, there were so many players that we could have targeted. We have ourselves to blame for this mess.
Agree with all of that

Why are they not accurate?
Difficult to sign in Jan is true as clubs will be reluctant to sell their best assets mid season ( and assumes the player indeed wants to move)

When you work to a budget, affordability is an obvious factor

as much as we need enforcements into the team, I hope we don’t panick buy and make the mistake of kelvin phillips, nunes type of signings again.
These type of signings impact us for the next 4/5 years.

I’m sure we signed KDB in a January window? Could be wrong though.
But 2 quality signings would be enough to pull us out the shit and start fresh next season

Kev was a summer signing IIRC

He played for Wolfsburg in the German version of Charity shield just before digning

That transfer thread was a classic

Madness. Yeah, ok, I get not wanting Greenwood or Ronaldo, but people would actually turn down the opportunity to have a player like Vinicius Jr because they don't really like his personality?
Yep. His behaviour towards Rodri was a disgrace and his conduct on the pitch is pathetic too.

Each to their own mate, but not my cup of tea.

Fair enough, but our club captain's behaviour towards his own wife has been a disgrace and that incident in the recent game against United was also pathetic. We've harboured some wrong 'uns in the past on our books. I guess we all have a different threshold, but I wouldn't say Vinicius' behaviour reaches the level where I'd categorically say he must never play for City.

What we need apart from skill on the ball and passing ability is aggression and urgency to help instilled the pressing back into our game.

We have too many not up to the physical side of the game. As good as Phil Foden is we don’t need any more players coming in with his timid nature. He got kick up and down against Leicester and received no protection but you have to give a bit back and he either can’t or won’t.

If I could talk to Pep I’d beg him to please give us our pressing back.
