West Ham (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

Pep makes some baffling moves, but has also shown a stubborn side. Jack starred for England in CM, & played well against Forest (I think) when we played him there.

In Pep's mind, Jack makes us a 4-1-4-1 with him being an additional CM, but on the wing. When we're dominating, Jack helps keep control, but he lacks the cutting edge needed against the usual armour plated defensive walls we face most matches.

Who'd you rather play CDM, Grealish, Gundog or Nunes?
None of them ideally.

I just think something is not right with Grealish this season. I don’t think his relationship with Pep is great at the moment as he isn’t in the team much. The Forest game he played well but for me that was more to do with De Bruyne making space and if you watch the Forest game back, he did absolutely nothing for 25 mins. The next game in Europe (Juve) he was rubbish.

Played well first half Villa but completely invisible second half. It’s this inconsistency that stops him being a regular.

It's not just Grealish suffering from indifferent form, it's the whole team & it's become infectious.

My point is we only have Kova to replace Rodri & he can't play every minute of every game, so he's sharing the position with Gundog who's evidently in the twilight of his career.

So given that Kova needs to be rotated, who'd you prefer out of Gundog, Nunes or Grealish?

It seems to be mostly a mental issue. The players are doubting themselves and slowing their thought processes down and then making poor passes.

The second goal was a thing of unbelievable beauty. The move, KDB and Foden to Savinho was a wonderful pattern of play and it sparked a better period for us. Savinho’s assist as sublime too. Probably in my top 10 favourite ever.

Then, second half, we started off really well and pressed really well. Went 4 up and then the changes…

Hopefully this gives Pep the extra nudge, if he needs it, to buy some sort of right back cover as Walker’s head had gone as well as his pace.

Same with Ilkay too sadly.

Good signs though from Foden, Haaland and Savinho. Thought Rico did fine too.

2 more wins and we hit the magical 40 point mark and safety. Charges permitting!
I don't think we need 40 points tbf.

I replied to this in KDB thread bloke was sat two rows behind me!!! Absolute disgrace of a fan… I get he gave the ball away but what followed was unacceptable.. I agree walker has been poor and was poor today and I’m not surprised if he was to leave I think it might be the best for all parties at the minute as his confidence is shot
The last thing anyone needs when they’re in the doldrums is direct shit from fans in the stand or on social media. Thankfully, it was just one guy. He was not backed by anyone around him.

I’ll always back the players in that situation. I did twice when Kolarov didn’t for loads of fans ironically cheering when Bravo made a save.

Are we back?
No. we’ve beaten two teams who might go down.

If we dont sign a central midfielder and a right back in January then we riot.

Walker’s career was ended by Adama Traore on 5th October 2024. It will be remembered by the city fans for his solid period of service and it will be dearly missed. RIP.

So good going forward at times today, yet so poor defensiveley at times with this crazy high line with players who simply cannot recover the ground.
I thought Savio was excellent today and Haaland got the service he craves hence the 2 goals.
Other positives were putting Bernie in the middle and I thought Foden looked a bit better.
We are in desperate need of at least 2 world class midfielders and a defender. The gaps in the middle on the overload were frightening and as soon as Kova and Ake went off if reminded me of the Feyenord game.
Let's not dress it up, West Ham had 5 clear cut chances today. On another day a better team with a decent front man puts them 1 or 2 up and it's a different game completeley. Gundo and Walker came on and it was like playing with 9 men they were that bad.I get pissed off with the lack of game time McAtee is getting. He deserves a run and I will be pissed if he gets sold before we get to see him in the team. Literally felt West Ham would get another goal or 2 in the remaining 25 mins. Still 3 points, and continues the unbeaten run. So much work and surgery needed over the next 6 months but looking forward to it.
Onto Salford at home

Such a strange game /performance. Uncharacteristic punts forward by Kev and Bernie, poor passing and then going against Pep wishes and going for it on the break, instead of slowing up possession.

It was so refreshing hitting a team on the break like we used to. It means Erl can get that inch of space he needs.
I don't really understand the tactics I'm watching for the first time.
