Surely it's going to be deeply embarrassing for them hearing nothing but united songs for 90 minutes from their own "fans"

imagine their players playing in the biggest game of their careers and all they can hear from the away section is songs about a different club and players that didn't know Salford existed.

We can go as weak as possible and still realistically expect an overwhelming victory. Our EDS play against this level in whatever the papa johns/autowindshield trophy is called now. We loan out our weaker eds players to teams better than these. There should be a battering regardless of who plays.
"should be" are the operative words here. There are no givens in football and we should not fall into the entitled trap that the fans certain other clubs in the local area inhabit. Fortunately I expect Pep to go relatively strong (maybe one or two of the players who need more minutes) and we can think about changes if things are going well in the second half.

It's not being entitled to expect the champions of England to beat a league 2 side comfortably even with widespread changes. Is it entitled for Liverpool to expect to beat Accrington Stanley? Or Chelsea to expect to beat morecambe? I'm aware upsets happen and we're not immune to them but any team we put out will be overwhelming favourites and would take an utter catastrophe on our part to lose.

Expecting something like thisView attachment 142338
"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way

The dirt track round the outside you can see was the speedway track, Halifax Dukes used to ride there mainly on a Saturday if I recall correctly.
The Shay is now a tidy little ground. 2 big terraces behind each goal. They’ve still got the old Main Stand roof from Maine Road over the stand down one of the touch lines. Halifax is good for a piss up too.

Aces were a world renowned club & team.

Saturday evening rides regularily attracted 12/15 k when Peter Craven was in his pomp.

Following the condeming of the stadium under the Taylor report, we bought it along with the 3 exhibition halls, Kings Hall and the derelict zoo and fun fair.

At its peak in the late 50s, it was the largest non coastal leisure resort in the UK once attracting almost 100,000 visitors across a bank holiday week end, and boasted the largest sprung dance floor in Europe !!
That stadium was never going to survive after the tragic fire at Bradford.

Expect team cost comparison a few minutes into the programme starting, won't be mentioned in the Liverpool, Chelsea games that weekend. The analysis and commentary will be unbearable on Saturday

Yeah, I can never understand why teams don't plan to win the game as quickly as possible, and if players need resting then they can have the second half. For my £7.50 ticket up with the FOCs in CBL3 I'm thinking that seven quid would ensure Haaland turning up for at least 45 mins, but I gather Erling is off somewhere other than the bench.

We need to pulverise them, any other lower league club I would prefer to make the game safe and then rest players, but this one I want a hatful of goals, just because of their owners
Couldnt care less about them me. Put half the EDS out with some of our 1st team and win in extra time who cares. Result is all that matters in the cup

Any truth in the rumours Haaland as been allowed a break this weekend.
As he been involved in any training this week ?

Good boozing town, plenty of characterful real ale pubs and privatley owned bars.

Huddersfield is also v good with better direct rail links from Manchester !!

Speedway was very popular at that time but has massively declined since. Kenny Carter was Halifax's top rider and a well known figure.
Belle Vue Aces used to draw big crowds to the old Hyde Road stadium, not sure how many watch the Aces now. Could do with some investment and PR as rarely hear anything of speedway now.

I believe speedway is big in places like Poland, used to go to Belle Vue in the 70s when I was a kid , not been since .
Used to enjoy the grit showering me on those bends and the smell .
But yes don't know much about the aces now and how many go

Use a squad that will win the game to nil through a good performance, but gentle pace.

Give opportunities to youngsters who deserve minutes, senior players who need minutes and rest players from the squad who need neither.

We have the squad, with 6? playable subs, to achieve all that.

No complacency, just hard headed professionalism and ruthlessness.

Move on, bigger and more important fish to fry this month !!

Good, innit? Could lead into a successful novel, and maybe film rights. Spielberg could do something there…

How about this (talking about the same thing, but from a different perspective)?

“Bliss was it in that dawn to be alive, but to be young was very heaven”.

Could be a description of how I felt as recently as last May, when we beat West Ham and did something that has never been done before in the history of English football… (not that I'm young, except in my head).

They will all have been off this week. They'll have had to come in for warm down on Sunday/training for players not involved or used from the bench against West Ham and then been off for a couple of days. Earliest they will be back in is today.
