Walker and Lewis should be the only first team defenders involved at all for this. Stick simpson-pusey in with hopefully a new signing, if we don't have one then another kid to make up the back 4 or jwe fullback and walker cb.

Gundo comes in, play Nunes in central midfield with him and mcatee making the midfield trio. I'd start savinho again and play him on the left too, keep that confidence sky high, then there is doku and grealish to come in somewhere.

probably have to be doku right, mcatee false 9 and grealish midfield to get them all in although personally I'd like to see mcatee given the priority to play in his favoured position and the others moved around to accommodate.

Ortega
Walker
Simpson-pusey
New signing/academy player
Lewis
Gundo
Nunes
Grealish
Doku
Savinho
Mcatee

Mainly kids on the bench, akanji, ake, kdb, haaland, bernardo, kovacic all not involved at all.

So the 5000 fans you've suddenly found for this match were all Salford fans before the takeover... or are they all rags jumping on the bandwagon and hoping to see a shock at the club that they don't care about at all?
All the Premier League v EFL2 FA Cup ties next weekend will see the lower level sides have grossly inflated 'support' way above normal numbers due to the status of the opposition. Equally sad and annoying but Salford City FC are no different to any of the other smaller teams involved.

Before the takeover we were averaging around the 135 so obviously not but just as in the case of Salford Red Devils RL when they reached the RL Champions Final at Old Trafford, they took something like five or six in times their average home crowd. I suspect that many Salfordians will be attending either their first ever or their first in a long time Salford City game just because of the calibre of the opposition. If we'd drawn the likes of Exeter City away we'd have been lucky to have taken 150 odd!

That's exactly the point I'm making. The 4000 extra Salfordians are either

- Salford City fans - Not a chance. They may look out for Salfords results or have a loyalty towards them as they're from Salford but they'll be fans of City or Utd
- City fans - Not a chance as if they were City fans they could quite easily get a ticket in the city end for this game
- United fans - Absolutely nailed on

Which is why I want us to put 10 past the 4000 rags willing city to be victims of a huge shock

McAtee plays, for me.

If kdb needs minutes, then he can have 60. If Ake needs rest, and any other player with a niggle, then rest.

Doku requires a run out.

I think Gundo will start as Kovacic now appears the lone vital piece in central mid. I'd like Grealish to support Gundogan, with mcatee and doku wide, and Foden behind Haaland.

Might even be a run out for the lesser spotted Wilson-Esbrand.

If that side can't put them away then they deserve to go through.

How do salford fans generally feel about the class of 92 turning the club into a mini united?
Did changing the kit colour not stick in your craw?

I love 3rd Round FA Cup weekend. There are always shock results. My home town team Margate from the Southern League battled all the way, through all the qualifying rounds to finally reach the 3rd Round proper.

1970 or thereabouts. We drew Spurs at home who had the mercurial Jimmy Greaves, Martin Peter’s, Alan Gilzein, Alan Mullery etc etc against my little club from the 7th tier of football.

Little Margate battled hard in the 1st half causing Spurs a few dodgy moments. Unfortunately Jimmy Greaves scores his trademark goal to send Spurs in 1-0 at half time.

The atmosphere was electric a 7,000 sell out crowd making so much noise. We were hopeful of equalising but that dream soon disappeared as Margate tired and in the end Spurs won comfortably 6-0.

For those of you who don’t know, Margate is a seaside town so after the game Spurs fans found their way to our sea front and smashed the place up for good measure.

All these years later I still remember that game. The gulf in class was immeasurable, but like all supporters of minnow clubs, we had the dream albeit for about 30 minutes.

It is the most exciting feeling when your little local club manages to claw its way against all odds to the 3rd Round and draw one of the giants in football.
I thought I’d share that with you all.
