I’d rather spend on top proven talent like Bastoni, Schlotterbeck etc, use Doyle, or look for bargains/players with hardly any time remaining on their contract like Guehi, and like we did with Akanji.

I’ve never heard of him, nor Reis, and hardly heard of Marmoush either. Then again it looks like we are building a squad for the next 5 years and on balance I’d rather trust those that built the squad of the last 7 years than, whatever players you or anyone else on here think it should be built around

It’s a slightly odd tactic though. Our squad is currently either too young or too old.

The sweet spot of 25-8 is quite sparse.

Still, the treble will be on in 2030 or thereabouts!

We have to build a team that will be good in the future though. We have dominated for years, could probably have transitioned the team a little better than we did but that chance is gone now. The old players are too old and if we are looking to replace them all at once with smiliar prime quality to what they had it just won't be economically sensible.

Much better to bring in youth that can grow together alongside the likes of Foden, Haaland and Gvardiol. We might experience growing pains but with Pep at the helm I still think we can compete for the big trophies, and when the squad hits their prime we will be laughing

It is, but there is a lot of experience in the team Keep 2 or 3 of the 30/31 players add Dias, Rodri, but even younger players like Gvardiol, Haaland, Foden have plenty of experience to build a team around.

According to the press. But we know how they like to ramp the price up when we look like signing someone. Or, er , ramp it down when one of the red shites look like signing someone. I’d take the press’s valuations with a pinch of salt

What statistics? Cubarsi, Huijsen and Hato all having better seasons.

I think he is in the top 90th percentile in almost every defensive stat . He is most likely having a statistically better season than those guys but he isnt as high a profile.

I think weve paid too much. So hope he pans out and becomes a top 5 CB.

I do get that, but think we need a couple of “prime” age players too.

We still have Dias, Akanji, Ake and a returning (hopefully almost as good) Rodri plus Haaland, and we should really count on Foden as one of the senior heads next season if we don't already. I also suspect one of Gundo or Bernardo staying as bit-part players for the dressing room next season. If we can wheel out the pensioners and thank them for their huge contribution we actually aren't that far away from a balanced squad even if we bring in only 20 year olds. But we probably won't, Marmoush has just entered his prime, and when summer comes I think we bring in more players in that 23-25 bracket

Personally I’d rather we try for Marc Guehi because he’s proven, and in the right age range, but we don’t seem interested. Maybe those running the club think he’s shit.

You say 1 good season as if he’s had 8 shite top flight seasons? It’s his 1st season at a top level and he’s 20 what else is is suppose to do? Every player who’s 20 or below is a gamble

Was reading a stat that said he was the only defender in the top 5 in both defensive and passing skilla.

I agree. I’d rather we went for proven quality or just gave Doyle a chance - who’s has loads of potential. £40m on a unproven youngster, after one season sounds like a lot. Yes it’s not our money, but surely there’s better value out there.
