So how would Gareth Bale, Thierry Henry, Arjen Robben ect have played with no pace? Nowhere near as good I'd imagine...

Some players have pace, Others don't, That's how football works...That's like saying "Messi would be pretty useless if he couldn't dribble"...
Dribbling is an actual football skill, having pace is pretty much being lucky to have been born with good genetics and specific muscle fibers. It's like being tall is an advantage in most cases, but it's not a skill that you can develop. Yes, you can go to the gym, follow a specific athletic training regime etc etc., but if it was all about training and developing your body physically, then everyone would have the pace of Walker or Sterling.

We could go on about this for a long time, Messi was dribbling past opponents since he's about 4 years old, Maybe he got lucky and was born with this unbelievable ability, He was produced to play football...

Fact of the matter is what you are saying is, The likes of Walker, Henry, Robben, Ronaldo and numerous others are "lucky" because they had pace to play football.

It was in the days where getting foreign kits was nigh on impossible unless you bought in country of origin. I’ve kept them all - handed down to my son, he’s wearing this beaut of a Monaco kit that I bought on holiday in Nice circa 1982.

A good friend of mine has nearly all the City replica kits from around the 80's bar a few but the genuine ones he needs are relatively big money, that shirt your lad is wearing is in mint condition, your collection will be worth a good few quid, he'll be able to sell them to reduce his student debt if he goes to university!!

I’d never sell the really special ones I’ve got - all French, all long sleeve, all originals. I did sell the one City top I had that was worth a few quid. Got 700

Guys, check out this video about Abdukodir Khusanov.

It’s just 1 minute but shows all his best skills! He’s really good at winning the ball back, but it’s hard to tell how strong he is with it at his feet. What do you think?

I'm quite excited about this guy - always enjoyed signing players you aren't familiar with without paying top dollar.

However, my main observation of that video is that it's pretty much a collation of him winning the ball back by going to ground.

Can't decide whether that's a positive or no.............

Yes, they were lucky because there are thousands of footballers who don't even have half the pace that Walker, Henry or Robben had, even though they went through the same training regime as the rest. Why did James Milner never have the pace of Walker? Because we all have a genetic predisposition, which in social terminology is equated with talent or luck.

I don't rate Messi as he always played for top teams. He never proved himself at Rochdale or Prestwich Heys.

(For avoidance of doubt, I'm parodying what morons say about Pep.)
So you are saying he would have been ok at Stoke on a wet Tuesday

Most of the Sports Science stuff I have read think there is also a considerable genetic element to how high your potential ceiling is on things like dribbling which require very high degrees of neuromuscular coordination, balance and eye foot coordination.

Clearly there is an element of practice/ environment as well but the narrative that was being pushed by the likes of Syed 10-15 yrs ago that it is virtually all practice is probably not true.

So was Adama Traore, Gabriel Obertan, Aaron Lennon, Bebe ect all lucky?

They were all incredibly fast, Yet incredibly shit.

You can have all the pace you want, You still have to use it correctly so yes it is a skill.

The 93:20 pod has a whole episode dedicated to him today and is interviewing seemingly the only person in the world who watches and cares deeply about Uzbeki football. It's a good listen.

This is the first 15 mins

if a premier league player is incerdibly shit ,then i don´t know ,what most of the other footballers on earth are called.

£35m for someone who’s played 11 games in France and cost Lens £100,000 18 months ago. WTAF. Pep will surely have sanctioned it so I’ll trust him.
And people on here rightly moan when Brighton and other clubs come up with unknown gems by proper, superb scouting. Then sell them for huge amounts or are so good they get them into Europe! When have we ever bought a relative unknown under Pep and it didn’t work?
