Brentford (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

We’re much better going forward in the last few matches but out of possession we’re a mess. Kovacic was tiring but Gundogan has really struggled of late. Reminded me of the West Ham performance in that once Gundogan and Walker came in. We miss Dias so badly, Akanji is ok defending our wide but isn’t strong enough in the box. Until we sort our midfield out we out going to be vulnerable, especially with upcoming matches against the likes of PSG, Chelsea and Arsenal.

On the plus side it was good to see Foden and KDB on form. Savinho was very good at times but his decision making needs to improve.
There were defo some positives like you say. Phil needed those goals, Savinho showing brilliant signs, Kev looked sharper.

Sadly unless we sort the midfield and get Ruben consistently fit we’re a bit fucked.

Every week, falling back in the last fifteen. Not competing with them in their half in the last fifteen. Not trying to score in the last fifteen.

Tired, tired legs. And not tired from this match or that match. Not tired even from being just over half way into a season.
Tired — bone tired, mentally tired — from seven years of effort (into the eighth year) for the hardest taskmaster in the game. With barely any proper breaks in the summers, either.
We need one or two players back, but that's not the miracle solution. We now need to buy, and buy well.

Defense doesn't matter if he actually passes and puts the game out of sight, he believed his own hype tonight
Can I remind you we gave up a 3 goal lead at home to Feynoord a matter of weeks ago? This was hardly an anomaly defensively.

Defending and clean sheets always matter it’s how titles are won.

I’m not sure what options he had to replace the tired legs that led to their goals though. It’s not as if they suddenly cut us open in different ways to what they were doing already, we just didn’t defend two moments as well as we’d done previously. We played most of the game in their half after the subs and McAtee could have put the game to bed.

I get why people will blame the subs because of the timing but that’s ignoring everything that went before and who was culpable for their goals.
Pep should have brought Doku on for his ability to run long distances with the ball and Jack as well, No need to keep Erling on when tit went to 2-0.
But the first goal was the bad one. There were multiple chances to clear and/or pass the ball away but once they get a goal the game changes. Second goal poor too but we should have been cruising by then.
Thought we played well second half attacking wise but really should have scored more. Baby steps though - big 3 games coming up

Several positives. Kev and Ake for a start, plus Savinho really starting to excite. Some serious pace on him too.
Negatives as obvious as always. Too easily bypassed in midfield and pitiful at preventing late crosses. Pep’s subs also inexplicable (again). Groundhog Day, but if we can find a suitable DM in the window, we might yet rescue a European slot

Obviously a stinger at the end but I enjoyed the game . It was a bit kamikaze but a lot more positive going forward even though we missed sitters again. Apart from the last 15 I thought the defence coped well . Obviously fatigue played a part in the end but it was a lot better. We know we have issues but I still feel positive going forward . Need to some how nail this top 4/5though , it’s going to be close .

£300m in the bank and a 100 yr old combined midfield three. Why on earth won’t we Splash the cash in midfield?

12 points from the last 12 games. we’re ending up 9th?
....or 8 from the last 4 ?

I know which I prefer.

Brentford are a difficult game at home, a point is no disaster.

I thought we played well for long periods of the game, but we tired badly in the last 15 minutes, didn't make the best decisions team wise, but we had the chances to win, a Savinho pass to Haaland 3-0, a Nunes shot, clean through, 1-0 up early on.

I thought it was a brilliant game to watch, and fair play to Brentford for keeping going at 2-0 (well all game really), the result was about right, 3-4 weeks ago we'd have lost 3 or 4-1.

I'm taking the positives from it, I hope the players do.

Kova eve on slippers and not a nature DM is most important game stabiliser despite hates from fan base.

A not so surprising stat, especially after watching our defensive disaster class today.

An end to end game. Seeing games out has been a problem all season.

Would have been a travesty if the chance at the end had gone in and lost the game.

From the moment Gundogan came on how many were clock-watching like me, It's funny how you could see it coming and we should have lost that's how bad it was, I am not buying into the players who have played too much football and are tired and fatigued ? most of them have not played for 10 days and had time off.

One key injury should not hamper a season ? Players are ghosting and getting away with it and just going through the motions in games, Did we really Press ? Did we really put in tackles ? Did we really want it badly enough
