Brentford (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

Savinho played well but boy is he greedy!
You know I didn't mind that, we need someone who is willing to shoot.

That one off the post was unlucky, he has gained a bit of confidence and is trying to score. Just what you need from a player in his position.

Gone back to 2016/17, picking a weak keeper to prove a point and a wide open defence for 90 mins.

KDB had burnt out so take Foden off. It is criminal to throw away so many games late on. I feel sorry for the fans who went, I don't care if City get beat or throw away 2 points, but this is negligence.

Lucky to go 2-0 up and then made no attempt to see the game out.

Nope, both of those have been absolutely abysmal. And I agree with you on pep’s stubbornness.

But if you think Nunes is the answer to our midfield problems I think you’re wrong.

He’s atrocious. Not switched on tactically and clearly doesn’t have what it takes to play in midfield for city. He’s weak defensively and even weaker going forward.
Lol saying Nunes is weaker going forward just shows you talk absolute rubbish, he is the best crosser in the team after KDB and should've had another assist for Haaland today, he has pace and has made decent recovery tackles including one against Wolves that helped win us the game, he has made stupid mistakes and I don't think he's the answer to our midfield problems but I think he should've definitely been used more in midfield.

I honestly can't believe people still think Nunes deserves a shot in midfield. He Is crap truly crap.

No control in midfield remains our primary problem
That and an abject failure to stop crosses coming in
Oh and shit tackling too
Can’t just rely on our central defenders clearing the ball time after time

Other than that we looked quite good in moments.
We need a DM!!!

Good point against the best home record in the league.

It was a very even game but obviously not the stuff of champions

Which is where we need to get our heads as there will be other days like this before the end of the season

I’m not sure if it’s on instruction or the Kovacic has no sense of danger but he’s always ahead of the ball when we are being countered. I remember Rodri was the same in his first season and it took him 18 months to learn where he needed to be as a lone six

God know why Gundogan was ahead of McAtee when he missed his chance , surely you play it safe and stay goal side at 2-0 ?

He's not crap in absolute terms. He might not even be crap by overall PL standards. But he's nowhere near good enough to be in the squad, never mind the team, of a club challenging for the top four; or more often challenging for top place.
It's not being entitled, it's a matter of fact. City have been in the top four every season going back to 2011. We've qualified for the CL every season, and while Nunes might be OK against some European opponents and lower division teams in domestic cups, he's not good enough for the vast majority of league games, even as a squad player.
Several others could fall into the same category but Savinho is now showing some form and Doku can't be criticised because he's scored a couple against mid and lower table teams.
Our success since the takeover means good players aren't good enough, we need great players all over the pitch. Poor transfers have let us down.

I thought it was a really good game and one of the first times this season I have enjoyed our performance. Brentford are no mugs. Just count the number of successful forward passes they play in a game. I would take their two forwards as well. I thought the defence was miles better and all of them had better games. Akanji looked like he was moving far more freely. Kevin was good today and Savinho also did some really good stuff. Well done Phil. Two lovely goals and he looked like his confidence was starting to return. Shame we let them in at the end but that was as much about them as us. A draw at Brentford is a decent result and I for one saw some really good signs in that performance.
Sorry but you can’t tell me you’re happy watching us capitulate again. The fact this is continuing to happen far outweighs any positives from the overall general performance.

No matter how good Brentford were we had a two goal lead with 10 mins left and we allowed them back into it. Ultimately it’s another 2 points dropped and we’re lucky other teams around us also dropped points.

At this stage of the season it’s about results you have to be able win and see out games when not at your best - and not just against fodder sides like Leicester and West Ham.

I agree , he should be nowhere near the squad, never mind the team.

Ake is a very good left back. Gavardiol is actually a centre back. Switch them. Not hard is it ?

On the right, when Dias is fit play Akanji at right back. Four big, strong guys in the back four. I know it’s radical but it might just work.
It certainly worked in the treble season…
