Running thread

Anyone else sick of the snow/frost/ice? I've got myself an indoor bike so I can keep exercising and stop going stir crazy! :')
I've been injured, so wouldn't have been able to run anyway. Looking forward to getting back out though.

On another point, it looks like Kerem Gokmen has quit the forum. Shame, as I enjoyed his weird and wonderful posts.

Same, he was entertaining on here. It's a shame to lose a fellow running enthusiast! He inspired me to read a book that really improved my running last year. (how bad do you want it - Matt Fitzgerald).

I actually enjoy running in these conditions. Just back from a run. -3°C here, a little bit of frost, but great running conditions. I much prefer running in winter than becoming a sweaty mess in spring and summer.

Jesus wept how is this even news?? It goes down alp the time, and just like every other time it is back on again now, do people get paid to write this shite

My inactivity means I don't often know when they go down anyway!

I've literally never had a single problem with my Garmin. It's the best watch I've owned. Miles ahead of apple watches (for working out anyway).

So far, I've done about 50k on my bike in 2 days. It's quite good. Not as fun as going out for a run, but it meant I got two good long workouts in whilst the weather was shite.

Is anyone here using Zwift for cross-training? It's pretty cool.

Yeah, Zwift is good. I let my membership lapse though and its since gone up to £18 pm so haven't renewed yet.

I'm quite interested in setting up some sort of zwift thingy, how does it work and what equipment do you need?

You can use it for running and cycling I think, so depends what equipment you have, or planning to get. If you have a bike, get a turbo trainer and get an ipad/phone/laptop to display zwift, and then use another device to watch something whilst training. You can check compatibility on the zwift website as some cheaper trainers won't have the connectivity required.

I've got a Wattbike Atom, and it works brilliantly with zwift. Also works with Garmin so you can use your watch for HR if you don't have a chest strap.

You’ve already got a bike don’t you?

You just have to hook it up to a power trainer. I use the Kickr Core + Zwift cog. You can buy controls (that enable you to shift gears, use powerups etc).

It’s quite gamified but I like it.

£450!!! Fuck that, that's a month's worth of new running shoes, I will stick to racing deliveroo riders down Wilmslow road

Parkrun absolutely scuppered tomorrow.
Nowhere really within the North West seems to be on. I guess I’ll have to go out and do my own 5K run. Think fields might be a better option than roads; hopefully the freezing temps will at least reduce the squelch factor. At least I can have a lie in for once and do it at 10am or 11am instead :-)

Just completed Heaton Parkrun. As it was just about the only one not cancelled north of Watford it was totally rammed and completely bonkers.
Had to queue 5 minutes at the end just to get into the funnel so definitely won't be getting a PB today!

That's my usual but sacked if off this morning as I knew it would be rammed.

Swapped it for an easy 9k this afternoon.

How many did it pal? There was over a thousand there when I did it in August, but that was the anniversary one I think.

Back up and running properly now. 2024 was a bit of a shit year. Runners knee kept me out from February to July but a good physio got me sorted. Pulled my Quad in November but managed that well.

Doing Hale 10k in Feb, so aiming for sub 44ish I think, with the aim to be under 40 by the end of the year (PB 41.58).

Has anyone done the Morecambe festival of running?
Thinking of doing the 10mile there in a couple of weeks.

Think I'm sidelined for a while. Taken to A&E with chest pains, they've ruled out heart issues, checking for clot on the lung but it looks like pneumonia. Been in A&E for 8 hours and counting
