City launch legal action against the Premier League | Club & PL reach settlement | Proceedings dropped (p1147)

Thanks for that. As Scruffy Jim says, it's an absurd proposal and you wonder what it's trying to achieve (similar to FFP and PSR being based on net profit).

Why not just adopt UEFA's player cost ratio system? It's not perfect by as by means but it's better than some random, ill-thought out measure like (w)anchoring.

have to say without being as clued up as you and other learned friends on here i think english football is shooting itself in the foot.

FFP
scrap domestic ffp.
don't hold the "top of the table" clubs back in europe with domestic rules.
let the "top of the table" clubs in england be bound by the eufa ffp on the european stage.
that would keep our clubs competitive in europe
that would keep the PL as the top league
that would shift the burden of ffp "prosecution" cost onto uefa

PSR
keep a domestic version of psr that allows for investment from anywhere
free investment removes the need for domestic fmv tests etc.
that would allow "bottom of the table" clubs to grow and compete unhindered
that would allow newcastle, villa etc to grow freely
that growth would encourage additional club development like around city

Not sure what happens when clubs transition from "bottom of the table" to "top of the table" in terms of meeting uefa requirements

yeah i know i'm a fantasist

Personally, and I think other posters have touched on this, I would scrap all FFP and all PSR domestically. Allow owners/sponsors to invest whatever money they want, as long as it is investment and doesn’t become a debt. Once clubs then hit European competition they are then bound by UEFA financial regulations. At that point the investment would likely have to stop and the club would have to become self sufficient.

Wouldn't they then come a cropper of the UEFA 3 year rolling limits?

Is it possible that the delay to announcing the panels opinion is to align with the 115 announcement? I know they are completely separate & therefore it should be independent but I just find it incredibly farcical how it’s been left. It’s like both boxers raising their hands & the judges disappearing.

I think the PL are just waiting for divine intervention myself.

A few points.

No need for any financial regulations in football other than the law of the land.

No journalist seems brave enough to ask the obvious question: what would happen to any excess monies?

The PFA will hammer this. Why would the premier league succeed where the football league failed?

Anchoring sounds like a much more equitable split of revenue. It’s actually sounds like it’s fair. Even though it would inhibit City.

It would at least try and get the teams to build the league as a whole - a stronger league with a richer bottom club, would be beneficial to everyone.

Not sure it's needed in anyway though, as if you get rid of PL finance regs and if a team over spends and gets into Europe, then they will break Uefa regs anyway.
