What about the goals he scored and were ruled offside when they weren't. It works both ways. Not taking anything away from him. But if offside was a thing back then I am sure his scoring record would of been half as good. Still a proper Legend RIP

Yep exactly how I remember it. Fist fights, bloody mouths and noses around me and as a 12 year old it was a bit hairy for me to say the least. I managed to get out before the announcement that the game had been abandoned and was safely ensconced on the top deck of a 72 bus back to Higher Broughton, listening to the drivers radio and getting home for tea in no time as if nothing had happenedI was there in the scoreboard end with my Dad and cousin as 13 year old……I can’t remember how many times the Stretford End invaded the pitch running the full length of the pitch with their Bay City Roller tartans etc and scarves tied to their wrists and jumping into the scoreboard end where the City fans were.
By Half time there were many rag fans mixed in with the City fans and I remember cheering at Half Time when the scores were given out and the results were going against United and getting a slap from a United fan.
Surreal at the end after ‘Denis had done it’ and as somebody mentioned the game never actually officially finished.
Oh and Mike Doyle stood on the pitch as the Rags fans ran past him…..no one went near him.
Pity we didn’t win the League Cup final against Wolves with Denis in the team that season….although we should have done.
What a forward line
Summerbee, Bell , Lee , Law and Marsh.
A poor show IMHO. An acknowledgement should have been on there straight away. Not only did he play for us in 2 spells, I believe that Denis had also been an active member of our Former Players Association. Plus he was part of the past City Players parade on the pitch for the last match at Maine Road The fact that Denis also played for the dark side should have fcuk all to do with it.Still nothing on the OS.
Can't work out why?
TBF he was being chased by Big Helen :-)No one messed with Helen.
My cousin was there. He said he knew it was time to leave when he saw a man in butchers overalls run on the pitch carrying a meat cleaver.
Part of me wondered if it was to allow skip the respect he deserves as no other fecker seems to be bothered?A poor show IMHO. An acknowledgement should have been on there straight away. There was no segregation back then. It was pay at the gate. The Scoreboard End was very mixed. How many blues were at that famous game, and did we have a section as such
Yeah I had a similar experience, was in the scoreboard end and was 13 years old so very nervous about what might happen to me ....the goal went in and I fucked off with my mate laughing and punching the air until we got home to Blackley and re enacted the goal over and over again in Bogart hole clough park ......Great day thank you DennisYep exactly how I remember it. So where does the frase Goal Hanger come from. I presumed it was before offside. By badOffside was a thing back then.
Football has always had an offside law.
Goal hanging was standing on the edge of being offside. So where does the frase Goal Hanger come from. I presumed it was before offside. By bad

Wasn't one of the Edwards lot was it? ;-)
My dad tells me about the pub with the sign with Dennis in the city kit with his hand in the air (edit scoring a header!) Glad you confirmed that! He’s delighted.I’ve seen a few obits for Denis Law say he retired in early August 1974 (or even earlier). He didn’t. He actually started the 1974-75 season playing (and scoring) in 1st team competitive games. For facts follow the link:

Denis Law at City
Denis Law had such a wonderful footballing career, with so many periods deserving focus. Inevitably – and rightly – many will focus on his exploits with Manchester United and Scotland. …gjfootballarchive.com
