RIP Denis Law

Rag fans hate the fact that yewnytiid gave their hero a free transfer and he promptly signed for City for nowt.

Two goals on his second debut for City and a backheel goal to send them down in his last game.

Manchester City .....

Well it gave City a win at Old Trafford.

One thing about the match was that it was never actually finished. After the Law goal the United fans repeatedly invaded the pitch and eventually the referee gave up and took the teams off.

It was the sixth league win there in seven seasons. The first was the Colin Bell inspired win in 1968. United did get one league draw at home to City over that period.
And our last win at the swamp, until the Munich air crash 50th anniversary game in 2008.

I wonder, if asked, how many Blues at the game in 1974, would have happily waited 34 years for another away victory over the rags, just for the back heel moment.

I was there in the scoreboard end with my Dad and cousin as 13 year old……I can’t remember how many times the Stretford End invaded the pitch running the full length of the pitch with their Bay City Roller tartans etc and scarves tied to their wrists and jumping into the scoreboard end where the City fans were.

By Half time there were many rag fans mixed in with the City fans and I remember cheering at Half Time when the scores were given out and the results were going against United and getting a slap from a United fan.

Surreal at the end after ‘Denis had done it’ and as somebody mentioned the game never actually officially finished.

Oh and Mike Doyle stood on the pitch as the Rags fans ran past him…..no one went near him.

Pity we didn’t win the League Cup final against Wolves with Denis in the team that season….although we should have done.

What a forward line

Summerbee, Bell , Lee , Law and Marsh.
Mrs Vienna was there, though she was only little; 5' 1".

Fortunately, she had Helen "The Bell" Turner looking after her.

Rest easy. As it has been mentioned in the thread the most successful spell was with the red side.

NBC lead with Haaland contract. After that they talked about Denis Law. Talked about his days at the Tsgs but didn’t mention his days at City. Certainly didn’t mention that back heel!! Cunts.

I know we like to think he did, but the truth is, he didn't, unfortunately. Results elsewhere meant they were down, even if they'd won on that glorious afternoon.

As Sparky would say; obviously!
I might be completely wrong here and thinking of another rags game, but wasn't there a pitch invasion? I remember even Matt Busby having to get on the speakers and ask their fans to get off the pitch. They didn't take much notice of him.

The scenes of Mike Doyle strolling off the pitch, and the hordes of rags parting like the red sea are hilarious. 10:06 into the video.

No one messed with Helen.
My cousin was there. He said he knew it was time to leave when he saw a man in butchers overalls run on the pitch carrying a meat cleaver.
I was stood to the right of the goals when the rags fans ran across the pitch from the Stretford end. They basically took over most of the scoreboard end. After a while I felt an almighty push, the crowd parted and a circular space appeared behind me. Inside this space was a lone rag with a large knife shouting, 'come on, who's the next to get punctured'. I thought it best to keep my head down after that. Unfortunately, a rag who lived on our estate recognised me and started asking me what I was doing there as I was a blue. I could see another rag nod to other rags in my direction. I knew then I was in for a kicking. As soon as I hit the floor the boots were raining in. I've never moved so fast on all fours. Like a cat with it's arse on fire. I thought it best to make my way out and missed Denis's backheel. Didn't even know the score till I got home. A very unpleasant experience. I did catch up with the rag who blew my cover at a later date. Let's just say he would probably have second thoughts about repeating that stunt.

I see the BBC are making this all about United.

interesting to see how scared of the police they were, once the coppers appeared on the pitch.

Completely the opposite would happen today.

Not taking anything away from him. But if offside was a thing back then I am sure his scoring record would of been half as good. Still a proper Legend RIP

Because of the repeated pitch invasions, the match was never actually completed. After several failed attempts to clear the pitch, the referee abandoned the match with the score standing. I have never seen anything like that happening before or since.
