It was a highly political and partisan speech, you don't see it that way coz you agree with it. Why ask for compassion if you believe the Presidents policies are compassionate? Why ask for empathy if you believe the President's policies are empathetic, you don't. You only ask for these things if you believe what Trump is going to do, was elected to do, is punitive and vindictive, lacking in compassion and empathy. The Bishop even referenced a group that deserves the President's support that Trump doesn't believe exists, that he wiped out of existence by a stoke of a pen not 24 hours before!

That's the problem with people who think they're nice, they think it gives them licence to shit on those they deem not nice.
