PSG (A) | CL | Post Match Thread

Why the fuck did JS duck away from that crossed ball instead of heading it, even if it was lifting it for a corner.

Were done in this competition this year.

Come off it! Pep hasn’t lost the team at all
I agree - most sports are about confidence and belief - we have lost ours - partly due to Rodri's injury, partly a succession of injuries (especially in defence), partly because we haven't bought a full back for 6 years, but largely because the midfield have grown too old together and our acquisitions have been a notch or two below what's required at this level - and it was there for all to see - PSG were the better side from the off - and whilst we grabbed back a little control as the first half wore on, it wasn't sufficiently convincing to think we were going to win this. Doesn't matter if we do beat Bruges next week, without serious midfield investment we're not going anywhere near winning it :-(

I don’t think with Haaland leading the line we can press and I think it would suit our players to invite teams on so our Viking can exploit the space when we do achieve a turnover
Agree we could be v effective with doku and sac operating on the counter but it just isn’t pep

Fire away but for you to say "it's only" anyone the way we're playing is a joke. Arrogant rag-like behaviour
Fair enough. I think any decent side beats us I just don’t think Brugge are decent.

Just wondering why people are talking about us playing 4-3-3. We don’t. We play 4-4-2 that using translates to a 4-2-4, which also morphs into 3-3-4/3-2-5 at times when we are comfortable on the ball and pressing the last 30.

KDB hasn’t played midfield since he returned. He’s been playing second striker, with Haaland. When he came off, Foden moved into that position and McAtee moved onto midfield.

The problems are glaringly obvious…

- We are too easy to run past in midfield
- We do not have a recognized full back on EITHER side of the field
- We have no legs from 60 mins onwards
- We are way too susceptible to the slotted ball between defenders, for either the attacking midfielder or a free attacker
- We don’t like to tackle, because we fear free kicks around the box
- Anyone can see when we are at our game because when we attack quickly, we attack, but when we are not at our game, we slow it down and struggle to break down any decent team
- Nobody fears us anymore, so we don’t have the luxury of time and respect anymore, unless we impose ourselves on a team for 15-20 mins, and even then they’re confident they can hit us on the break.

We need replacements for:

Lewis - not good enough
Nunes - not required standard at FB
Ake - age & injuries
Gundogan - age and speed
Bernardo age and speed
KDB - age, injuries, end of contract

…at a minimum.

In addition, we have players who appear to have plateaued or are stagnating while others run past…

Ederson
Ortega
Akanji
Stones
Gvardiol
McAtee
Grealish

Clearly, they’re not all getting moved on, but that’s still a massive amount of underperformance for the standards we have set.
Lewis and Mcattee are good Squad players all the rest i agree should be replaced-Akanji maybe not.So we need 2 gk but the main focus is central mid both defensive and creative;Full backs would be good as well ,struggling to remember the last proper left back we had

For someone who said he'd love to play a team of midfielders it's mad we have no midfielders!
We have, it's just that they are underperforming, individually and and as a unit. Their inability to control midfield cost us big time and midfield used to be our strongest department. Not anymore though. We need to address this with at least one quality midfielder signed whilst the transfer window is still open.

What on earth was Nunes doing when trying to nick the ball ahead of Barcola for PSG's first goal?

It was such a ridiculously high-risk decision, considering the name of the game in that immediate aftermath of establishing our 2-0 lead was to take absolutely zero risks which could give PSG encouragement.
Nunes should be anywhere near the team, in any position.
