PSG (A) | CL | Post Match Thread

Anyone know why the last goal was given? I didn’t stick around after the goal was awarded.

Exactly, look at PSG’s team yesterday, all in their early to mid twenties, eager to put a mark on the competition. They will be a threat to whoever they get in the later rounds

We’re still in for more pain this season as I doubt the signings are going to push us any further in the short term

But next season our squad should look at lot younger and ready to take on these physical challenges that our older players can’t handle now

Marmoush 25
Haaland 24
Foden 24
Gvardiol 23
Bobb 22
Doku 22
Mcatee 22
Lewis 20
Savinho 20
Khusanov 20
Reis 19

The future looks great to me
Lewis included!!?

There is a lot of promise there, for sure.
When I look at that group, it is blessed with talent, technique and athleticism. I also note that all of it comes in defence and attacking midfield. The return of Rodri is pivotal, of course, and it could be that Reis is planned as his backup, but I do think that the positions most needing investments are those currently filled with Bernardo, Gundo and Kova. The role of Neves last night showed that intelligent 'legs' in the centre are where it's at. He wouldn't have been able to do what he did against Rodri, but he caused us a lot of pain and allowed players like Barcola to do their work.

The ball hit off Gvardiol and fell to the PSG striker.

I never understand that rule, It's doesn't make any sense...Gvardiol challenged for the ball because the PSG player could have knocked it into their centre forward, If he had of let him knock it on then he's offside...

May as well constantly stand in an offside position and get lucky breaks.

Not that it mattered anyway the game was over.

In the cold light of day….it wouldn’t have mattered what line up we put out last night, we would have been beaten.

It’s not lack of effort, we are simply not good enough, too old in certain areas, and definitely not physical enough.

I’m not sure how this has been allowed to happen, but winning the league last season has certainly papered over the cracks.

The obvious areas of concern are defence and midfield and I’ve no problem with the purchases we have already made….we need young hungry defenders who can last more than half a match before ‘not feeling right’ and coming off at half time.

I’m not sure we are going to get the quality of midfielder we require in this window…but Pep has got to try something different….maybe one of our younger players because watching Bernardo, Foden, Gundogan all bouncing off the PSG players was pretty shocking last night.

This feels very similar to Pep’s first season in charge !

This is Pep’s biggest ever challenge, can he rebuild this team? I’ll be honest , i doubt it , we just won’t see another dominance like we have just witnessed , I’d take Enrique tomorrow as manager , fast , explosive , dynamic football , has to be our next manager. I just hope Pep isn’t staying here for sentimental reasons, let’s be honest here , this team is finished.
We,ll see soon enough with the new additions, at the minute feels like were the world champion heavy weight boxer who took one fight to many despite the warnings beforehand.

Psg we're everything we once were last night, everyone could see we were far our best at the begining of the season but pretty sure no one could have predicted the fall we've seen in recent months.

Could be worse imagine being a rag follower right now never mind the last 10 years :-)

PSG were simply the better team last night and CITY well off pace and we all know reasons why and to be honest last few wins have only hidden over cracks. I think we will beat FC Bruge next week and qualify.....its the CITY way we never take the easy road! (I still have hope for the final in Munich) :)

Yes, Lewis was one of our best players in the early part of the season , playing out of position due to our bizzare obsession with not signing full backs

He’s also a kid that will have their ups and downs due to form , but he will come back as he’s got loads of talent

Not in that position, I think. I really like the lad, and last season showed unquestionably that he had talent. But right or left back? Sorry, but I just don't think he's got any kind of future there.

Agree , he’s not a right back - especially not a traditional one that doesn’t invert

Remember though , this kid provided the impetus for our treble winning season by playing that position and shaming the older players in showing them how it could be done

I think it would do us good to go out…

Well, I hesitated to post it — I'll be virulently accused of not getting behind the team, being a traitor, etc. — but I'll admit I've been thinking it since last night.
“Do us good”? Well, I wouldn't exactly put it like that. But I am utterly convinced that we have a maybe 5% chance of winning the thing this year, even if we do somehow go through. My feeling is that we concentrate on getting top four — and that is far from being easy, it sort of depends on Chelsea and/or Forest dropping off, and why after all bet on that? — and having a good run in the Cup.
We absolutely don't have the players, the legs, to be in three demanding competitions and go deep. That is now crystal clear to me.
Next week I'll be cheering on the lads, because that's what you do on the night. You don't choose it.

Our midfield is made up of old and slow and midgets and our defenders can’t defend. How did it get to this ?????

We got absolutely mugged last night in the middle of the pitch. When we did get the ball the passing was shit and gave it straight back to them.Nervous as fuck

Over the years, we have gone from a team with:
Aguero
Balotelli
Tevez
Dzeko

To a team with:
Aguero
Dzeko
Negredo
Jovetic

To:
Aguero
Jesus
Leroy
Sterling

To:
Aguero
Jesus
Sterling
Mahrez
Grealish

To:
Mahrez
Grealish
Haaland
Alvarez

To:
Grealish
Haaland
Doku
Savio

It's clear to see that there's an absolutely insane person overseeing the transfer policy at this point. The decline in the quality of players in the team now is insane, the quality that was brought in to replace the players that have left is just mind blowing and not in a good way. For some reason we neglected one part of football, arguably the most important part of football, goal scoring and focused on ball hugging footballers and now the ball huggers are giving up possession easily as we saw with the game yesterday. We need to get this Marmoush guy and some other player who's hungry to score goals from any position across the front line, Maybe Rodrygo from Madrid or Musiala. Retrace our steps and go back to playing football to score goals, enough of this nonsense about trying to reinvent the purpose of football.
