Southport attacker pleads guilty to murdering three girls | Sentenced to 52 years in prison

The thing is, and people often don’t appreciate what I’m about to post.

Firstly, if he’s subject to such a sentence he’ll be approaching 60 (at the earliest) if he’s released. He’ll be completely institutionalised, won’t know anyone, he will be completely isolated and won’t be able to function in society, and have no means of supporting or bettering himself. He will be utterly frightened and a complete shell of a man. I’d actually be amazed after all that time if he’d even want to be released.

When someone spends that long inside, especially from such a young age, it completely breaks them.

I think people have this notion of prisoners being released after several decades inside skipping away from the gaol and living a happy life of freedom. They don’t. Most of them absolutely hate it after that long inside.

Their sentence doesn’t end if they get released, and nor should it.

Not confined to those who’ve spent decades inside either.

I once saw a youngish lad ( late 20s probably) throw a cup of boiling water in the face of a complete random stranger, as he was due to be released the following morning and the thought of it must have been so terrifying to him, that it was the only thing he could think of to stop it happening.

I don't doubt that. Similar to that old dude from Shawshank Redemption who tops himself once released.

Hopefully prison breaks him.

I was told many years ago by a criminal barrister that ten years was the broad rule of thumb except for really hardened, career criminals. Any more than ten consecutive years inside and it invariably broke them.

i know a couple of old cons that have made a go of it after release. One did time for murder and then more time for rioting in Strangeways and now runs a gym training young kids.

Play acting and causing issues in the dock. Shouting he needs a paramedic.

No, you ****, you need putting down with a bullet.

Was about to post this..... asking for a paramedic, unbelievable. He should be denied any sort of health care for the remainder of his hopefully unbearable life.

very common place-in custody some detainees will play up the entire time; banging their head against the walls, trying to hang themselves, claiming they have chest pains, kicking, banging, throwing shit everywhere, eating their own shit, putting clothing in toilets filled with piss to make a weapon and/or flood the cell...threatening you, spitting at you...i really miss it!

he's clearly a v disturbed invidual-and whilst I appreciate the argument for prisoners to be present during sentencing, its often just not possible without someone getting hurt and also prevents the court from functioning.

He will need more than a paramedic where he's going, more like an undertaker, but even that's too good for him, just needs chucking in some concrete piling construction site, alive

I’m sure they’ve just said on Sky news that the judge will have to “give him credit” for pleading guilty and knock a year or two off his prison term?!?
