I think this guy should live as I think no one should be executed by the state which is what this thread was created about, not the individual case. Would I understand if a parent of one of those kids wanted 10 minutes in a room with this particular individual? Yes. Do I think for one second that that should be an option. No.

It's a moot point in this case because we stopped executing minors in 1933. Last 17 year old to get the death penalty was in 1899.

There's possibly a 17 year old that turned 18, that got the DP after 1933, but wouldn't be many.

Even if it ever came back, it wouldn't be applied to minors, or criminals who committed the offence as a minor.

It wouldn't actually have an deterrent effect and adds to notoriety, which the depraved sickos crave.

Regarding the money argument and how much it costs to keep someone in prison vs executing them, just a quick note that the average length of time spent on Death Row in the States is 233 months which is just 7 months shy of 20 years so it's still costing a fuck ton of money sentencing people to death. It's not just the cost of housing those on Death Row either. There's also the cost of the numerous appeals that many prisoners undertake.

That's not the only reason why I'm not in favour. There's also the obvious one of wrongful conviction. I also think that death is sometimes the easy way out for the most evil of murderers - chucking them in solitary for the rest of their lives and throwing away the key would be far harder for them to cope with IMO.
