Chelsea (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

Much better that. The atmosphere was excellent and the crowd got right behind the boys.

Marmoush looked a right handful on that showing, a good start. The kid centre half had a baptism of fire but he survived it - he'll be stronger for it. Thought Gundo had his best game since returning, and Bernardo & Phil also back to something like their level.

Haaland put a real shift in and gave a class centre forwards performance. Pleasing.

The more I see it the more I think Akanji confused Khusanov by shaping as though he was going to take the ball in his stride, only to change his mind at the last minute. This resulted in the weak header when Khusanov might have been better just letting the ball drop and clearing for a corner/throw in

Thankfully his confidence improved and great work by Pep and the crowd for him to be substituted and the subsequent standing ovation

What a stupid thing to say by Neville. He’s not some daft partisan fan on a forum. The way two adults talk after a game of football has finished does not affect the result.

He's got form for it from being a player. When he first got the gig at sky sports he toned it right down and everyone was saying he's alright, a decent pundit etcetera. Now he's got his feet firmly under the table and feels invincible, the nasty horrible little anti City rag weasel we always knew he was is back in plain sight.

Just when people think they have the whole playing out from the back sussed and fixed, pep zigs straight into route one football.
Brilliant!
Agreed......been far to regimented and obvious in the past and we've been well and truly sussed. Playing like the old Lpool or untied stirs the pot a bit and leaves managers wondering

Wonder what the loud mouth **** made of Haaland having a laugh with Sancho before the second half.

Neville is a ****.

Pep changed the tactics and that was the key for yesterday. We played much more with a overload with attacking fullbacks the First Time ever. A little bit like Liverpool it does for many years. It suits us and i like it that we are finally see a change in peps thinking on how we gonna break the block. Chelsea didnt expect That and were surprised so they couldnt park the bus.

Not sure what people are watching or they're oversimplifying. Pep's Barca "went long" aswell. So do we, all the time. Ederson has several assists for us ffs.
There's no change at all to how we play.
No change? The tempo is quite different. We now play with a genuine second striker who runs at the defence or makes diagonal runs, reducing the pressure on Haaland and giving the opposing defence something to think about. Having a right back overloading who can actually cross the ball, even if he is not a RB by trade, is also a novelty.
Genuine change in my book.

Neville is so needy. He always has to make out that he sees a meaning or significance in things that nobody else sees. He has to be the story or the headline the day after a game. Me, me, me.
I very much doubt Cole Palmer gives a fuck what Neville thinks & says, Pep definitely couldn’t give a shit so who was he aiming his little rant at? Out of respect Palmer is not going to ignore Pep & we’ve seen Pep make a beeline to various opposition players at the end of matches and have discussion sometimes more animated than others. I guess Neville wants players to disrespect him or worse. Basically he’s a shit stirring little rat who should save his insight for what is going on at the swamp

Lest hope Khusanov is the reverse of Mangala who had a sterling debut against the Chavs and subsequently turned into Alan Kernaghan. Felt for the lad yesterday, I'm sure it was just nerves that got the better of him, fingers crossed.
Akanji as the senior experienced player should've taken control, his dithering left the lad exposed.....they'll both learn.

Akanji needs a good r & r period asap,he's running on vapour after so many games, positions and niggles.

He's a v intelligent lad but regrettably too nice and not a 'leader' .

Good game. Convincing win and pretty dominate performance against strong opponent. Chelsea are not world beaters at the moment, but "top6" nonetheless.

We apparently hitting our levels in terms of chance creation. Yesterdays XG against Chelsea almost 4 is very high. Haaland, Bernardo, Gvardiol very good, Gundogan visibly better than few weeks ago, Nunes getting better at a new position. Still not a vintage Foden, but effective and much better than against PSG.

Our problem is defence, we need Stones and Dias back. If they return and are able to play regularly, our season doesn't have to be doomed to failure. The Champions League (yes, im sure we gonna qualify, just because in case of win we directly jump over Brugge and thats enough), FA Cup, second/third place finish in the league gonna be absolutely possible.
