President Trump

Nope, the price has shot up! All grocery prices going up due to sanctions fear. US imports vast amounts of veg from Mexico for example.
Cases now of crops spoiling as workers, fearful of raids, don’t turn up for work.

The Trump Strategy.
1. Appoint incompetent oafs to cabinet posts who will defer to him to increase his own power.
2. Activate schedule F enabling non partisan civil servants to be sacked for no cause. Replace with Trump loyalists.
He has already illegally sacked about 20 Inspectors General whose job is to oversee federal agencies and prevent criminal acts, incompetence and waste.
Now he is sacking the senior lawyers in the immigration section who have a quasi-judicial function deciding on asylum and immigration.
The honours system under which law graduates enter government service as non partisan civil servants has been junked.(All this was in Plan 2025 that he claims is not policy.)
3. Piss off allies as a precursor to leaving NATO. “We will have Greenland.”
4. Withdraw from international bodies such as WHO and Paris Climate Agreement.
5. Put into immediate effect Immigrant expulsion raids.
6. Put into immediate effect trade tariffs and threaten severe sanctions on any country that displeases him.
7. Remove protection from those in Democratic governments who displeased or pursued him then bad mouth them on line so his recently freed domestic terrorists can do their worst.
8. Ramp up vote denying activities against the young and black people to fix elections. In N.Carolina the contested election for Attorney General was won by a democrat. Three recounts confirmed this. The Maga machine immediately moved to invalidate the vote by objecting to thousands of votes. The state Supreme Court supported the motion to withhold confirmation of the election.
9. Threaten to make Federal emergency aid conditional on the state agreeing to his terms. Threaten to abolish FEMA.
10. Suspend all foreign aid including that to Ukraine.
11. Threaten territorial expansion.

All going swimmingly for the dictator for one day.
I forgot Drill, baby, Drill.
Perhaps the silliest part of the strategy.
It’s beyond my pay grade but put simply this will not reduce prices as Trump claims, because:
1. Additional production in the states will be mainly shale oil.
2. US does not have the capacity to refine more shale oil as most refining in US is of heavier crude and so shale would need new refineries. No oil co will invest the sums needed.
3. The shale oil will be exported and US will increase the imports of heavier crude which it can refine. Imports of oil products will also increase as US refineries cannot meet demand.
4. So the US will be subject to world prices on its imports. Thus no reduction in US oil and gas prices will be occasioned by drilling, baby. Worse, if any of the importing US companies have to pay a tariff.
PS Here is a good explanation

Just like our very own Office for National Propaganda Statistics keeps on claiming how migrants are net contributors to the UK tax take.

I'm sure there's some phrase about Lies, Damned Lies and Statistics.

Just sticking with the UK, what is is it do you think has enabled labour to be devalued to such an extent that theres been effectively no wage growth for the the last 25 years, particularly in the unskilled employment sector?

Such prolonged wage stagnation has never seen been before prior to the last 25 years.

What else has happened in the last 25 years that has occurred on a scale absolutely unprecedented in this countries history?
2 words: Corporate greed.

Also, the devaluing of our level of education through qualification creep.

There's another facet to undocumented migrants. They aren't able to easily register for state benefits or tax credits in either the USA or the UK, and in the USA they don't have any access to health services. They are effectively net contributors to the economy.

Employment legislation, market deregulation, globalization, freedom of movement, 2008 economic meltdown, migration due to global conflict (often facilitated by the west) etc have all played a part in where we are at today. It’s not as simple as pointing at a group of people and saying “they’re to blame.”
Very much reminds me of this...1737989199797.png

In the US Immigrants are far less likely to indulge in criminal activities than native born Americans. Trump speaks from ignorance or in a demagogic appeal to US audiences. “They are emptying their gaols and asylums into the US” is just a lie. What a surprise.
I didn’t say that, I said it’s good he’s getting rid of the ones who have come with a history of it and are known gang members. Of course more native born will commit more crime there is a lot more of them. Getting rid of scumbags who come for one purpose only which is crime shoukd go immediately

He's not getting rid of scumbags though. The ICE raids have been predominantly in blue states, and they've been raiding businesses and rounding up undocumented workers, not targeting 'criminals'.

I never mentioned crude numbers. ‘Likely’ signifies propensity. The raids do not seek out those you mention. They expel all without the correct documentation without appeal.
The only emptying of jails onto American streets was by Trump himself.

Watching the their news and I don’t mean Fox they stated members of m13 gangs and people who had been released in sanctuary states/cities who are known to already have convictions in their home countries for violent offences, so who do I believe?

I realise there are other factors in play but the overriding factor that has facilitated everything you have highlighted that has then resulted in the many deleterious socio-economic issues we now have all comes down to one single issue, without it none of those other issues could have arose and proliferated.

Arrests and deportations of criminals was happening under the previous administration too. It's nothing new. The only difference being is that press releases and agency statements are being very carefully controlled by the new administration, so expect more of the 'dangerous criminals deported' type statements and less of 'we busted a school and deported a load of brown kids' type stuff in the media.

Fair enough pal good to know

I fully agree, corporate greed is absolutely at the heart of the issue.

The corporations want and have mass immigration to allow them to make more profits by having more consumption by more people, whilst simultaneously that mass immigration also has the effect of allowing the corporations to suppress wages and erode T&C's of their employees.

There are plenty of ways that migrants can and do receive state support including benefits and tax credits, it's a complete fallacy to suggest they can't despite what the "rules" may suggest. And the impact of mass immigration devaluing labour has resulted in a huge increase in all people relying on benefits and tax credits due to the suppressed wages that everyone, both natives and immigrants alike, are now subject to.

Only 16% of migrants arrive in the UK with a valid work visa, you can't seriously believe that the other 84% all immediately find highly paid jobs instantly making them net contributors to the tax take.

And your point is? You said we had taken in 'more than our fair share' and all I did was point out that the numbers appear to show that other European countries take far more than u
My inference from those stats that you posted were that we weren't doing enough as a country concerning 'refugees' in comparison to Europe. There just simply isn't enough housing to accommodate anymore and yes Europe is in the same boat as us, that's why I took the 'spare bedroom ' tack.

What about folk from war torn countries?
Like I mentioned in my previous post, labour and the tories have played a part in destabilising Northern African and Middle Eastern countries in the past decades gone by. It’s the working class people that feel the effect of our governments foreign affairs as communities across Britain become lost to people from other countries arriving.

Immigration will never be solved in western countries. The left and right will never agree amongst each other, neither the public nor politicians will ever come out of the argument and shake hands.

Drill baby drill will increase the world supply of oil, regardless of where it is processed, which will reduce overall world prices and indirectly benefit US customers. If it was processed in the US there would be more direct benefits, but this way we and the US customers benefit !

Those horrible, horrible corporations -- imagine them want to grow revenue and shrink cost -- how DARE they?

If I ran a company, I'd be hoping for demand to stagnate and production costs to rise.
