I`d be happy with all 3 of those 8-)

The trouble is (IMO) we need a midfielder to give us aggression and energy now. Our midfield is so weak and lacking energy and to lose out on a top 4 finish because we haven`t refreshed the midfield would be a disaster.

14 weeks until the end of the season and getting in the players we want long term, Luiz is clearly a stop gap (loan) that the club want.

To go and blow 30m plus and big wages on a player that pep does not see as a long term solution would be madness, even more so if we fail tonight and miss out on millions in the later rounds of the CL.

100% agree all 3 of them midfielders I'd love to see at City, but the 2 German lads would want CL football and will either get it at the clubs they are currently at or potential clubs they move to. With our current midfield Top 4/5 is not guaranteed. Even Tonali at Newcastle has as much chance of finishing in the top 4 as us. We need legs in that midfield now for the rest of the season.

Agreed.

Either spunk up big on the player we want, or, luiz on loan.

No more journeymen for peps most important position.

Yeah.
That's the hard bit though, getting a proper DM in January is difficult.

I don't see it personally.

I think we will plod on until the summer with what have ().

If we can get a luiz-esque loan or perhaps a young prospect for the future who can help out, fine.

We can't do a Philips/Nunez/kovatic/Gundo comprise again.

The big players we want aren't available this month, Cambiasso coming in will give us lots of option until the summer, Cambiasso could play there along with Stones, Akanji or even Gvardiol.

Luiz would help but clearly the club only feel short term and hence the delay.

I still think we will get agreement with Juve for both Cambiasso and Luiz before the window closes, they need cash and we are rightly playing hardball on Luiz.

Jack Gaughan said at the start of January that the 3 main targets were Marmoush, Ederson and Khusanov and 2 out of them 3 are in the door and Simon Mullock yesterday said that Atalanta wanted £50m for Ederson?

I think if Mullock is right and Ederson is now available for £50m that our priority has changed mate? Jack Gaughan said at the start of January as did Martin Blackburn we had 3 main targets and 2 are in the door and Ederson is the other one?

Of those listed, only Nunes is ostensibly a compromise. Phillips was first choice (Bielsa recommended him), Kovacic was brought in as cheap squad depth but bought early in the window and Gundo made himself available (we wouldn't have brought anyone in).

Nunes was a scrabble to get another body in though, after missing on Bellingham, Rice and the Paqueta issue. I'm pretty sure it was reported as either getting him in or Eze and Eze was deemed harder to do.

Is Ederson a mid season Elastoplast or a serious long term partner for Rhodri?

So Ederson is more what we need and Kova as we know is better at going forward or playing slightly higher?
 
I’ve not seen much of Ederson at all but those City fans who watch him regularly don’t seem that keen.

At the end of the day it’s what City think.

As others have said, it feels like we only want him as a stop gap until the summer as we may have someone else lined up who we fancy more.

I can’t make my mind up to be honest. He was clearly very good at Villa but I don’t watch too many games aside from ours to form my own view. What I do know is that he utterly divides opinion on this thread. Some reckon he would be absolute quality for us, whereas others say he’s dogshit. There seems to be very little middle ground!

Luiz obviously is well known to pep and the club and we have had several chances to bring him back (buyback option) yet never did and clearly we only want him now on a short term loan, so that says a lot about how the club rate him.

Luiz is a fall back option, the last resort, Bruno is unavailable and it appears Ederson is next in line.
