Andrea Cambiaso

It’s incredible how many people are wise after the event. If we win the Champions League this year it will be brilliant, just like it was two years ago
I don't understand why both can't be true. Since the treble our signings have been mixed. We have the midfield issues now because of those windows.

Winning 4 titles on the bounce is an incredible achievement. That doesn't mean Kovacic and Nunes were great signings.

The midfielder has to be the priority.

I'm not okay with the right back situation really and if we can get in Cambiasso then great.

If not, It'll be interesting to see how we get on without Walker.
Even though he was declining, i would still want him in my team for the big games, like the arse this weekend for instance! He would shut down Martinelli...(i wonder who's going to be marking him now?!)

But, we do have players who can cover that position, and i think i'd leave Nunes there for now anyway...

But in the middle, if Gundo or Kovacic go down, we're fucked!
Pretty sure it is the priority, but getting a top midfielder in January is surely the hardest transfer out of any

We won’t get any near it with our current midfield options
Winning it with Kova, Gundo and Bernie would likely be Pep’s biggest achievement at City.

If we win the Champions league this season does that mean last summers window was brilliant?

No, not necessarily, but it Would mean that our approach over the last few years wasn't as abysmal as people make out.

Tbf, our 7 trophies in the last 2 years already mean that, even if we win nothing this year.

There is also an argument that we should have won the CL last season and for me in the end that defeat against Madrid gave us the PL title.

Rodri was the best player in the world last season but our midfield was him and if it had been even stronger we would have beaten Madrid.

I will put literally everything I own apart from my cat on us not winning the champions league

If we get through tonight, all bets are off. With key players coming back, others finding their mojo, Pep getting a few distractions behind, and a couple new faces giving us a lift and rest time, I wouldn't bet against us. Worse teams than ours have won it, a bit of luck here and there and it is hardly fantasy territory.

Would you bet against Real Madrid winning it? They're hardly doing that much better than us at the moment.

I would say being top of the league and being qualified for the knockouts before the last group game in CL is doing significantly better than being 12 pts (with one game more played) from first and being outside of the knockout spots with 1 game to go in CL.

Perhaps but it's now basically a straight knockout competition, league positions (for us at least, presuming we win tonights 'knockout' game) are immaterial.

Real Madrid is winning all their games ?? What comparison is that ?

CL group stage is all about getting through to the knockouts, I agree. And as long as we are in it we of course CAN win it, it's just very unlikely given how we have played for several months. My post was just answering someone claiming that Real Madrid is having a somewhat similar season to ours when they are, unlike us, on course to have a very successful season.

Real madrid were one place above us this time last week, and only 'secured their qualification to the next round with their last win.

Yeah they are doing well in their league, but it is a twho horse race and one of them is bloated to fuck.

In the CL, they are doing marginally better than us, was my point, but most wouldn't bet against them. Villa are doing way better than us, but you'd be brave to bet on them.

My main point is, it is not wild to suggest we do have a chance of winning it if we qualify tonight. Which I think we will btw.

Not in the CL. Which was what the discussion is about ffs.
