For me, it's promising because it means he wants a midfielder. We've heard him in the past say he's happy with the squad which basically signals no extra movement but he keeps saying it - I doubt he's being sly and sending a message to Txiki because I'm sure everybody at the club are already well aware.

Interesting few days to come.

It’s best to have no hope of anything happening mate. It’s very unlikely imo. Usually there would be noise around a target and aside from a little bit form the Italian press (which has since been shot down) most of the consensus seems to be city will be busy in the summer. This to me is city saying we are done for January.

Before the window the talk was 3 signings and we have signed those 3. I just don’t see pep wanting to leave a new player out if the champions league squad either. Would be quite harsh even if Reis is very unlikely to actually play

Exactly this. We know we have an issue which goes 50% toward solving our problem. The remaining 50% is identifying & securing the right players. The last thing we need is another round of panic buying which led to Nunes, or our scouting being so off point, it led to Philips.

We need to get a player who can not only seemlessly rotate with Rodri, but who can challenge him for a place in the starting line-up. Rodders is the current FIFA World Player of the Year, so finding such a player who's available at the right price & is in the right age range is easier said than done.

We desperately need a CDM, but the last thing we need is to make another player acquisition mistake. If our preferred CDM isn't available now, we should wait until the summer. I know our need is urgent, but we put ourselves in this situation by not being proactive enough when we had the opportunity.

Yes hopefully.

I can usually read between the lines with Pep but he’s full of contradictions at the moment. As you say, happy with his squad one minute and saying the midfield doesn’t age overnight…the next minute he’s reading out their ages and saying we need a more dynamic midfield as every other club has vastly better midfielders!!

He normally protects the players but is sounds like a desperate call for help with the fixtures coming up, but then says we will be much better in 2 weeks?!

Unless we have something big going on in these last 5 days I can’t follow his thoughts.

I'm a hopeless hoper friend - right down to the last tick will be poised for massive celebration if we get a couple of good ones over the line :-)

Sadly true. We better have a very good CM to replace Gundo and an equally good DM to help Rodders lined up for the Summer.

I love that we are targeting youngsters but they can’t help right now and you can’t mess about with centre midfield.

I don’t love that we sell so many youngsters that could have helped us. Cole Palmer and Morgan Rogers as recent examples. I hope they don’t do it again with McAtee.

I was so happy when we brought Rogers in, he stood out a mile to me and I thought if even I can see what a talent he was City would do everything to bring him along. When we sold him I thought shows how much I know…But It looks like I might have been correct strangely.

Despite almost nobody else agreeing with me on this I still maintain we wouldn’t be in this position if we’d refused to let arses outbid us for Declan Rice.

After missing out on Bellingham who would have been even better, that was the time for the Treble winners to show which dog has the biggest bollocks in the PL. And it shouldn’t have been bloody arsenal. I know the player preferred arsenal but he wouldn’t have refused playing for the champions under Pep, we should have just offered him more cash, and his agent and to West Ham.

Well I agree with you but we will never know how fixed his decision was to stay in London. The time to get him with hindsight was instead of Phillips. Such a strange signing that, almost nobody on BM thought it was a good idea like selling Palmer. When even BM posters all agree then you know it’s a weird one.
