Gemini: Discussing what Nico González could bring to Manchester City:

**Technical and Playing Style Fit:**

* **Ball Security and Passing Game:** Nico was developed at Barcelona, meaning he's comfortable in possession-based football. This is a perfect fit for Manchester City's Guardiola-style gameplay. He excels in passing, capable of accurate short and long passes, and has good vision on the pitch.
* **Midfield Versatility:** Nico can play in a defensive midfield role, but he can also be deployed further forward as a box-to-box player or a deep-lying playmaker. He could perform in various roles at City.
* **Playing Under Pressure:** Thanks to his Barcelona training, Nico is adept at playing in tight spaces and under pressure, which is crucial in City's attacking play.
* **Dictating and Controlling Play:** Nico can control the tempo of the game, remain composed on the ball, and shift the direction of play.

**Added Value to the City Squad:**

* **Youthful Energy:** Nico is a young, dynamic player who brings a lot of energy to the pitch. This would be beneficial in the City squad, especially when the more experienced midfielders need rest.
* **Future Potential:** At 22 years old, Nico still has a lot of room for improvement, and he could be a valuable member of the team long-term. Guardiola is known for developing young talents, so Nico could benefit from working with him.
* **Competition in Midfield:** City's midfield is extremely strong, but competition always helps make the team even better. Nico's arrival would provide another quality option, and everyone would need to bring their best form to get into the starting lineup.
* **Rotation Option:** Due to the busy schedule, City needs a deep squad. Nico would be a reliable option for rotation without significantly reducing the team's quality.

**Specific Roles Where He Could Excel:**

* **Rodri Alternative:** Nico could potentially play in Rodri's position, who is a key player but also needs rest due to the busy match schedule.
* **Box-to-box Role:** If Guardiola is looking for a midfielder who can move effectively between both goals, Nico could be a good choice.
* **Deep-lying Playmaker:** His passing game is different to Rodri's playstyle, therefore if a deep-lying midfielder with different qualities are needed, he could be a good choice.

**In Summary:**

Nico González is a technical, versatile, and young player who would perfectly fit Manchester City's Guardiola-style gameplay. He would strengthen the midfield, create competition, and could be a valuable member of the team in the long term. While he's not a "galactic" signing, he would be a smart choice for City if they want to strengthen their midfield and build for the futur

We signed Phillips, Nunes, Rodwell, and Javi Garcia to play in m/f.....rather get a good one (he maybe, but the above were meant to be as well) than another of those! So I will save the 'excited because of desperation' until he plays for us....if he does.
Yea and 3 of those were playing in the Prem and we knew about them

Evidence to suggest mayb the les popular likes of Ederson, Dias, Rodri, Alvarez, Doku, Savinho etc. Aren't so bad

Something doesn't add up. Why did Barca sell him for just €8m if he is a real talent? Must have been a bit underwhelming at Barca and then Valencia? Maybe he's made big progress at Porto? If we really want him must be so. But his RC is the same as that of Zubimendi who is much closer to Rodri quality wise.
Maybe he’s improved? Plus Barce have a good sell on clause apparently

I was a bit disappointed when I read somewhere that his weakness was his pace. About the same top speed as Gundogan which isn't much to brag about.
How have you come to that conclusion. How did you measure both players top speeds.

I’m baffled by the reaction of some on here.

We need a backup 6. We have done for a long time.

Nobody is good enough to replace Rodri.

they let him go and signed Kessie on a free instead, and then let him go to Saudi

How many times does the Zubimendi thing have to be answered .

Their academy is like ours. They sell most of their graduates. They didn’t rate him highly enough to keep him as they have decent midfield options.

I get that but they could have sold him for more if he was rated highly. The puzzling thing is not that they sold him but that they did it only for €8m. Normally, German or Italian clubs would pay more for a good prospect.

One of my good mates porto fan I've just asked him if he's any good he replied unbelievable player but not fast and portos best player by far and never loses the ball.I then asked him " more importantly does he win the ball"?.His reply was " he's not that kind of player"!. Sounds more technique than a ball winner.

FFS, still no athleticism in the midfield then
Rodri is hardly fast. Many, along with myself called him plodri for months. Rodri is a lot like Yaya was, powerful with the ball at his feet but he isn’t the quickest to run back.

I’d be more focused what his positioning and tackling is like. We’ve been poor at winning the ball in the middle this season, hopefully he’s got a bit of bite to him as well.
