It’s Quiet 20 - What is the Wirtz that could happen?

12 hours left from the window.

we shouldnt be in this position to pray someone comes in 12 hours in to help us in midfield for next 6 months.

Txiki made his bed and now we all have to lie in it. he had enough time all summer and deffo since November to find a target and get them. to think we are down to last 12 hours for it to happen is a joke.

watch us not getting any midfielder in and first Real game karma will get Kovacic or Bernardo or both injured for 2 months.

having said that he spent 100m on Nunes and Phillips. somehow we need to make sure nothing like that is never approved at board level ever again even if Txiki identifies that level of players for us
If the reports are anything to go by, it was Pep who didn't want anyone.

Considering there was talk of him leaving though, he should never have been allowed to make the decision on future rebuilds.

Peps stuck with his philosophy I understand he wants to stick with it ,as it has won so much, but he doesn’t have the right players right now to play his way, it’s leaving gaps , causing errors and teams having loads of space to hurt us.

This is where his stubbornness is hurting us. We don’t have the personnel to play the football Pep wants. But his loyalty to this group of players , he believe these players that are now old lack energy can still do it when results have shown they can’t against quality opponents.

We don’t have a midfield and it’s not just missing Rodri he’d help of course . But the other midfielders are old and lack energy to play for 90 mins at full effort. We can’t play possession based control when we at times look like we are limping in midfield half way through a match.

We just need to defend deep and play balls over the top for the young attackers like we did against Chelsea. But Pep won’t keep doing that as he wants full control.

he might not be involved he said after buying two very young cb i dont know where and when i can play them
imo two very strange buys for the amounts paid with other issues need adressing

Mistakes happen.

All we can do is try and put it right.

Why has the pull of pep not allowed us to go for the very top players? Is it only down to price? Do we not have that edge anymore? Genuine question.
Go on Wolvie I will bite.
I very much doubt every single top class player harbours a desire to play for Pep.
Yes we have made a couple of major errors in Phillips and maybe Nunes. Are we reluctant in January to just sign anyone?
Pep hoped to get one last year out of this squad and it’s not worked out.
Are we forgetting Erling and Gvardiol signings?
Yes mistakes have occurred but to anyone calling out highly professional people such as Pep and Txiki as negligent is looking at the wrong answer to our situation.
All imho of course.

Starting to think a few might be downing tools. Or given up on Peps methods. Walker was terrible here, but at Milan yesterday he looked back to his best. Pace was back and looked defensively assured

Except we're 4th with 41 points and they're 13th with 29 points, so that's a pointless statement.
I said during the last several months, not the entire season. During the last 15 games in the league we have 5 wins, 3 draws and 7 losses. The same record as the rags during these months. And again, I'm not saying we are as bad as the rags. I'm saying that during the last 15 games, aka several months, we have been as bad as them.

Those comments are a bit baffling given the structure of the club - its the Director of Football's job the oversee the squad and to ensure there is an appropriate succession plan - somewhere along the line we took our eye off the ball.

We are a pretty good team for 70 minutes of games on the whole - but we fall away badly in the final quarter and that has cost us in a lot of games. Its generally the result of the midfield (Kovacic in particular) running out of steam.

Surely to do with Italy being a much slower league generally.

McTominay is currently leading the midfield for the team at the top of the league ffs. Different ballgame entirely.

I doubt he fills the defence in front of him with much confidence
LOL, it's Ortega's fault for Stones pass into the mid and Akanji's fcukup and also Phil's brainfart into the mid? You should know better.

If you generally don't like Ortega and prefer Eddie, ok. But Ortega as the reason for the rubbish in front of him? Incredible.
That way Eddie also was the reason for our defensive lapses?
I'm out.

If ederson was in goal yesterday, I'd say there is a good chance stones would have passed to him instead of akanji because he trusts ederson to not lose it.

Ortega was crap yesterday, pure and simple. Doesn’t need debate.

Not negligence. All I asked is why we seem to struggle to get the very best with Pep in charge. Is it down to monetary issues? 115?

The coach has the same enigma as top world class players. I am mainly talking about midfield here.

Humble players who maybe world class is our MO. The haalands of this world was indeed a huge coue.

I don’t hear a Wirtz for example clambering his way to the etihad.

It’s not a bait question but something iv wondered for a while.

I would say that, but he had his pace back like the old Walker , played with a smile and didn’t look to be struggling with any injury. Looked like the old Walker honestly should’ve had man of the match. If it was against Lower opposition I’d say maybe it was the league but it was against Inter. He was playing with a lot of effort as well. Looked nothing like the Walker we had this season.

The rejuvenation in mood like leaving the in-laws after xmas lunch. :)

Surprise surprise a damp final day squib. Baffling window where we spent 120m on future players but not for now which we were crying out for. Looks like the board have given Februarys fixture list a miss and think Nunes can do a job against anyone
