It’s Quiet 20 - What is the Wirtz that could happen?

Ordinarily I’d agree, and completely understand the point, but we are in deep shit this season and the squad is a mess, with no decent defensive midfielders, no full backs and an ageing midfield.

Just this once I think we need to buy ourselves out of the hole we dug by being reticent to go for better players the last couple of years. It’ll be harder to attract the best if we’re not in the CL.

I appreciate that, but with 12 hours to go in the window we're not going to be doing much more business. I'm hopeful we'll get a midfielder in and in the grand scheme of things that's been a very good window. Two young defenders, a midfielder and a forward. Increased competition and players to help us moving forwards as others move on.

We've got to get our recruitment right. It's about identifying the right players. We've lost the greats of old and there are question marks over the majority of those coming through. The summer has to be targeting the right profile of players to come in and deliver instantly. We need proven quality to drive things forwards. With Dias and Rodri we'll have the high standards and desire to win but we need top quality to help them deliver it. There are too many players at the club who are inconsistent or who have gone missing. But summer is the time to make the bigger moves.

We needed a fullback a midfielder or two and a striker we got Marmoush that's good business we bought two young up coming top prospect centre backs! So one player who is ready to go we get Nico it's been a decent window!

I think we'll finish in the top 5 in any event. Newcastle have had a couple of poor results recently and beating them at the Etihad in a fortnight will put us in a good position, even if we lose against Spurs and the dippers.

I hope, however, that we are forsaking this window because we have a couple of massive signings lined up for the summer, because the squad has been downskilled for a couple of years now.

You make it sound like we will put Newcastle to bed easily. Isak will have a field day against our back 4. We struggle in the last 20 minutes of games and that’s because we don’t have the legs in midfield- this ultimately means we get overrun and the back 4 get woefully exposed - we have done nothing so far in January to address this issue and until we do - any team with power and pace in midfield will have a chance against us - hence the results at Brighton and Bournemouth.

Isak isn't Henry - his form is fading away now.

It won't be easy but if we play well we'll win.

We outplayed Chelsea and matched Arsenal for most of the game, both of whom are better than Newcastle.

I'm unsure who you think can be signed to be a bit part player ? I'm all ears
At this stage? Probably no-one. Maybe Douglas Luiz on loan would be low risk. A Merino type would have been great. Experienced, cheap, great in the air and doesn’t mind playing 2nd fiddle.

If we’re leaving it to the last day to sign someone who’s had a half-decent season at Betis and was playing lower league football the rest of his career, we are in trouble.

We were linked to Ricci, Reijnders, Ederson, Rocco Reitz and a bunch more but they’ve all fallen through or we were never interested in the first place.

Assuming we don’t sign anyone else, we have 0 right backs and 0 defensive midfielders. Everyone warned that Rodri needed a break and that injury in the Euros final should have been a warning. Walker’s been getting flak for the last 2 years but the only right back we’ve been looking at predominantly plays left back.

I say close this transfer window.
After last night's horror show we don't have to throw in random new faces just to burn them, they won't have any immediate impact anyway.

We don't have to discuss anything about football as long as we see that clownery in our defence. Sort that out first, take the current players by their responsibility and their pride FFS.

Pep is a major factor as he has coached out any 1v1 sharpness, any bite, any pace going forward. Even now when he slowly realizes that the tides have turned his inner self can't change his fundamental philosophy.

We have to start doing what the opponent doesn't like,
and stop doing what the opponent wants us to do. It's easy.
We are doing it the other way round, it's comical. The full staff team must be blind or asleep. Wake up.

We don't need mediocre overpaid panic buys now, stop that nonsense.
Start working and Pep, FFS, stop calling shite shows 'really really good' perfomances. Nobody except @marv ;) buys it anymore.

If we play well we can beat anyone. The only problem with this logic is that we rarely play well. On the contrary our performances, particularly in defense, are more often than not shambolic.

12 hours left from the window.

we shouldnt be in this position to pray someone comes in 12 hours in to help us in midfield for next 6 months.

Txiki made his bed and now we all have to lie in it. he had enough time all summer and deffo since November to find a target and get them. to think we are down to last 12 hours for it to happen is a joke.

watch us not getting any midfielder in and first Real game karma will get Kovacic or Bernardo or both injured for 2 months.

having said that he spent 100m on Nunes and Phillips. somehow we need to make sure nothing like that is never approved at board level ever again even if Txiki identifies that level of players for us

I'm surprised the board have sanctioned a spend at all tbh, seeing as a new DOF is arriving at the club in July.

First of all, big if. Secondly, I think a team that over several months gets embarrassed as regularly as the rags is more than 1 or 2 players away from being fine.
Except we're 4th with 41 points and they're 13th with 29 points, so that's a pointless statement.
