US Tariff War

I don't think this will end at four years Magic.

I don't believe this is a four years and have an election to choose another president situation, those days have gone. Democracy in the US as we know it today is a thing of the past.

They have got this far and they will not give it up now. I believe Trump is the figurehead and there are more behind this than a handful of billionaires. They are only just starting to find their feet, just wait until they have had more time and become emboldened to do exactly what they want.......more so than they do now.
Who in the US is going to stop them, anybody?

He's been in power for days and there is a total disregard for the law, they control it. They control much of the media. The bullying of Mexico and Canada was just a sign of what is to come, Greenland as well and soon to be the EU, they're just testing the waters.

The US people were sold a bag of spanners and have now let the genie out of the bottle. They'll reap what they sow, but it won't be just them feeling the consequences, unfortunately it will be global.

This 'dictatorship' won't work in the long run, but the damage it will cause along the way will take a long time to repair, both in the United States and throughout the world.

If nothing else, it should be a wake up call for world leaders, although I suspect it's all a bit too late.
The British Chancellor says we could do with some of Trump’s positivity.
The British ambassador to the US says Trump is a good person.
Oh my god.

both in a tough position tbh, have to maintain relations with the septics, even for the next 4 years of a shitshow, but it is galling. Mandellson had 1 position we agreed on, and now he's fucked that up too

I dare say, back in the 30s, British ministers and diplomats were saying nice stuff about Adolf.

It's called realpolitik. You have to deal with the world that exists, not the world as you would like it to be.

This is what the Brexit brigade failed to grasp. They thought they could mould the world to fit their fantasies. Sadly, you can't. Especially when you're just a small European country of middling economic, military and diplomatic power.

Great post. I share those sentiments as an absolute possibility. You just have to hope, he fucks up their economy, standing in the world, and people who voted for him, well enough, will ensure a change. What you are implying is a military coup to shit on the constitution. That’s not out of fantasy island either, very Jesusay.

It’s a shitshow and we are only in a month.

His latest mind fuck, is deporting Palestinians from, eh, oh that’s it, Palestine. The mind boggles at how insane this guy is.

It’s all about the ‘American Dream’.

‘Coming to America’ is no longer an option. Unless you’re extremely rich.
White and Christian. And brain dead evangelical variety Christian. Dinosaur and human cohabitation. Adam and Eve, evolution is shit, why do we still have monkeys, great flood and kangaroos could have hopped all that way, whole nine yards, balls out, wife in the kitchen types. Oh, and must hate people not like them.

Yes but if the EU & UK don’t speak up against the ethnic cleansing of Gaza and do actually allow this happen then we are all complicit in the injustice.

No, the politicians who don’t speak up are. I get blamed enough for stuff. Not taking that.

I’m afraid you have to.
If you’re used to your wife being the boss in the house, but when anything goes wrong you get the blame……
Well you should be used to it.

The average citizen in the UK exercises their political leverage at the national level once every 4 years when we vote for the mandate of our preferred candidate. We don't actively lobby our MP's during that 4year cycle to represent our opinions in Parliament. Maybe we should?

In all seriousness though whereas I’m proud of the stance our government took prior to the election here and what has happened since with the new government, I think words are one thing but action needs to be taken to show disapproval if Trump follows through on his off the head miracle solution for the Palestinians.

I’m not so sure our government will have the balls to stop American planes landing in Shannon with a cargo of weaponry.

I think at this stage this action would be approved by a majority here.
