US Tariff War

Why should I be ecstatic that your tangerine hero is doing his best to drag the world economy down with the small consolation that countries like ours are being forced to be less dependent on the US. Another consolation is my gold investments are doing very well which is a sign of turbulence everywhere else.
You are not happy your country is going to be theless dependent on the US? What kinda citizen are you?

If the US became less dependent on China, i'd be ecstatic.

But hey, to each their own

Not what I said but can’t be arsed discussing it further.

25% tariff on all steel imports announced. Will probably get withdrawn in a few days but will do enough to push up domestic steel costs in the US and fuel inflation. It’s like the stupid **** has read the ladybird book of negotiation techniques and keeps trying the same ploy yielding no tangible positive results to the US, but long term bringing other countries closer together and less dependent on the US.
Just to be clear:

10% import tariff - perfectly rational, no problem, not even a newsworthy story.

25% import tariff - crashing the world economy, stupid ****, going to ruin the US

Always here to criticiz(s)e other posters.

Never here to add value or comment on the thread title at hand.

Is that your interpretation of my post?

Try a bit harder next time as it bears little resemblance other than the stupid **** comment which you got right.

It’s a silly point anyway. Change tariffs to income tax and apply the same ratio.

25% income tax - perfectly rational, no problem, not even a newsworthy story.

62.5% income tax - crashing the economy, stupid ****, going to ruin the US

Your country could EASILY be less dependent on China, as could we all. Just pay more for stuff made in your/our country. Problem is, we won’t…
Bezos and Tom Cook, both standing shoulder to shoulder with your leader but nearly all their shit from China. Cook charges $1000 for an iPhone made in China. Presumably, if it was made in the USA, he’d charge $2000?

When you say Tom Cook do you mean Tim Apple?

Donald Trump has said he will double his planned tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminium from 25% to 50%.

He said the increase in the tariffs set to take effect on tomorrow as the trade war between the two countries intensifies.

"I have instructed my Secretary of Commerce to add an ADDITIONAL 25% Tariff, to 50%, on all STEEL and ALUMINUM COMING INTO THE UNITED STATES FROM CANADA, ONE OF THE HIGHEST TARIFFING NATIONS ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD," Trump posted on Truth Social.

Yesterday, Ontario announced it would be charge 25% more for electricity to 1.5 million American homes and businesses.

Canada's most populous province provides electricity to Minnesota, New York and Michigan.

The US stock market promptly fell following the post.
