Still can’t get over this, can’t help but laugh. Could do with a trim on Saturday, hope he’s about still.

I know this has become a cliche saying, but last night it felt like the “games gone”, especially at City. Sold my ticket as I was at work but from what I’ve been hearing from my mates, it was the worst they’ve seen it. Madrid semi final two years ago was just about acceptable, plenty of proper blues and the tourists joined in with the singing. Stewards telling City fans to be quiet for telling Madrid fans to shut up in the City end, send us down to league 2.
People are mixing issues up. There was a huge number of Asian fans at the game last night. This has become a trend. This is positive. It shows that City is not a racist club and that Manchester is not a racist City. But then there are other issues such as ticket prices meaning loads of regular fans have stopped going to Cup games because of the ticket prices. And that means that the atmosphere is rubbish. It was the same against Brugge. Then loads of families with young kids turned up. They didn't sing either. And the regulars in 115 didn't show up either.

For glamour games like Real Madrid loads of people will come if City regulars don't and Manchester has a very large young Asian population who will come to games like this.

Some of you are turning a positive into a negative

if the club didnt have such a lax/easy attitude to widely selling champs league tickets, how full do you think the ground would be for group games, even last night's match against Madrid? 75% full? if that?

fact is, lots of City fans have abandoned this competition years ago. it's a shame.

You’re bringing your own issues into the discussion.

The issue here is the same as the row of Barcelona fans at Anfield, the row of Hajduk Split fans at Anfield a few years ago, those German lads in our away end at Huddersfield last decade who were supporting Hudds, the lad who had a Celtic shirt on when we played Fulham at home last season and it being swathes of those type of spectators who are categorically not City fans across the stadium.

What are you on about race for? Bore off.

‘Traditional’ City fans have the chance to go games and choose not to. They’re replaced by tourists and away fans. Who’s to blame here?

Also the ticket office setting the criteria at previous home Champions League attendance rather than loyalty points tells you all you need to know. A Madrid fan only had to have attended one of the last 4 games we’ve played against them to be able to buy a ticket again.
I would argue it’s entirely on the club. Traditional city fans aren’t going to champions league games and I think a big part of that is price and the difficulty of getting tickets. Long standing fans who might have been priced out, young lads and locals and now going to the fa cup games instead. A few years ago those same fans would be at champions league games. The crowd against Plymouth will have barely any tourists.

The sales criteria doesn’t mean anything, as huge amounts of tickets are being sold on third party websites

traditional City fans are being charged 71 pounds for adults and 43 pounds for kids on saturday, therin lies the problem

I totally understand the frustrations on here but what could have been done differently?

From my understanding all season ticket holders got a chance to buy and then the tickets were sold based upon points to Cityzen holders. So So it could have been full of the regulars if they had chosen to go.

So what stopped people? The price? Previous Champions league experiences? Club not allowing tickets to go on the exchange? and what can change going forward.

Something seems wrong that City have grown so much, all reports indicate growth in our support but when the regulars don’t go we don’t have the numbers to fill the spaces.

When we add the North stand I think things will become much worse..
I think it stems from the history of this competition myself. When it was first set up it just passed us by, there’s no historic connection to it like the league or domestic cups. I’m glad we won it in 2023 but I’ve never really been too bothered about it other than it’s something the players want and means we get better players for the other competitions.

Pricing doesn’t help and neither does the shit transport/parking we have which is a real problem on weeknights. The new stand needs pricing properly to attract the PL crowd for CL matches. Put cup scheme members in there for £20 a game so we’re all sat together with no opposition fans amongst us. Put the tourists in level 3 and parts of level 2.

Imagine what it’s going to be like when the ground is expanded. They’ll be desperate for the legacy fans during the group stage games.

Problem is they’ve alienated huge numbers of our fans now

The new stand will be the final nail in the coffin. If we qualify for the champions league next season and get through to the knockouts, there won’t be many proper blues in there. So much for a blue wall or whatever the fuck it was meant to be.

Its not the same though, those away tickets had a strictly criteria that meant those people should never have got them, yesterday's game practically went on open sale as the "legacy" fans couldn't be arsed going so they got bought by "tourists " legitimately.

But any blue that wanted a ticket yesterday could have got one, nobody prioritised tourists over anyone else

Its not going to happen m8 they don't give a fuk about us anymore , they should be worrying though because if things go really tit's up for a bit ,how are they going to get back the lads that have turned there back on going to the match my guess is they won't be able to , so they had better hope for there sake they somehow turn this slump around
They won’t get them back cos they won’t let anyone buy a new season ticket, criminal that is, that’s been slowly strangling the club for a few years. Club just waiting for FOC’s like me to die off so we can get even more tourists in

Bizarrely when the north stand is finished I'll be finished going. Can only see it getting worst

I could be wrong, but from what I saw huge numbers of tickets for last night weren’t on open sale and were instead on third party resale sites

We'll all have a different final reason for dropping the CL.

From giving tickets to various groups at a lower price than they charged S/T holders to UEFA being corrupt etc.

Personally, my time was up when I attended the home game v CSKA, I'd not planned on the away game so obviously gutted for the fans who'd paid and missed out especially as they weren't recompensed by anyone.... however I was in 115 or around there for the home game, sat 3 rows behind were about a dozen CSKA fans in colours, they were banned as we were from attending the respective away game. Stewards, were informed who didn't want to get involved and actually guarded them.

That was it for me, there were plenty of stewards in the ground to shift 12 fans, they can always find them to shit City fans if ever there's any bother.

As it is although not your distance I now 'travel' to games, in all 3 other competitions at home and Wembley if we get there and that's me, no more aways (out of the habit), no more European aways done 6/7 in the Europa and early CL days.

£££ is king for the club and people will get out of going and not come back.

Once the current suits max us out and clear off the mess left behind won't be an easy thing to rebuild and by then loads more legacy fans will have gone, I'm nearly 62 and won't keep driving 90+ mins eachway forever to have to park 2 hours before KO to park free and have a chunky walk.it'll be like last night every night.

Not a bad early morning moan, if I say so myself.

Put your race card away and take in the chip off your shoulder.

I know a group of Mancunians of Pakistani heritage who’ve had season tickets at City for years. Good lads who have I chat with at games. You can tell the bloody difference between them and experiencing the City tourists over the last five years or so (who aren’t always ‘Asian’ anyway so why you keep bringing that continent up, I have no idea… last night there were a group if Albanians near me, one jumped up when Madrid scored and was wearing an AlbanianNT shirt and they all stayed sat down for our goals). Yet last night was on a new level for the Champions League tourists who are a distinction again from the new City fan tourist glory hunters.
I use the term Asian because it's accurate. There were huge numbers of Asian fans at the game last night, and not many Albanians. They come to the game because they can. They can because 3/4 of City's season ticket holders don't go. If they can go, then it means some Real Madrid fans can get seats too. And some people are regarding the influx of what they call tourist fans a problem.

There are separate issues. Atmosphere, ticket prices, regulars not going to cup games. The 'tourist problem' is not the problem. Ticket prices are.
